Missing features and oddness of Mahalo.com. Please read!
I'm trying to do the page thing; however, I keep finding odd occurrences. The most recent is the redirects keep appearing and disappearing from what is editable by me. And why aren't certain things just automatic.
Example:
Siberian Cat Breed
Shouldn't Siberian Cats Breed be included? And Siberian Cat and Siberian Cats? And if I simply put the words in a different order it comes up with nothing? Are you kidding me? Breed Cat Siberian doesn't pull up Siberian Cat Breed?
Are there any fantastic examples of well design pages in each category? Person, Place, Thing, Event...
I see people editing my pages. But nothing looks different? Is there a way to see what a particular person change? I've only got 3 pages and it seems like the Mahalo employee's are always making changes to them. I'd just like to know what and why so I could save them the trouble.(History shows nothing on the pages.)
On your profile the Pages manage shows views and money earned nice things but it shows when you started managing it. Which is novel but not really useful. What I'd really like is a date at which it will fall back into public domain. So that I can make sure I update them. Better yet how about an email alert before they go to abandoned? Maybe not one per page but a list that will go tomorrow if not updated today?
How can we possibly find pages that interest us? I see the lists of pages people have taken(Including myself) and there is no chance they are pages that interest them mostly they are pages they think will be searched often. But I want to find both. I'm an IT guy where is a list of pages having to do with IT that get searched often?
If your on the Mahalo Answers Search and it returns no results why doesn't it return Mahalo pages that might be related?
Can you possibly make the Categories easier to sift through? I mean if you don't know the order of things you can't find anything. I was looking for Obama and Politics and it was like 3 levels down and impossible to find in the hay stack list. Maybe a collapse all on the tree structure might help also.
When I'm in edit mode editing a page come on make the buttons bigger and darker. I'm not old but they are to hard to hit/read.
Why can I add a links sections that already exist? I accidentally added two Top Mahalo Links. On the Guide section this makes sense because they are generic sections Text List Facts... On the Links section they don't appear to be generic and at most you would want one of them. I think it would be better to not even have a drop down list but simply a check mark list. I want Top Links, Twitter, and Images.
I tried to add a link in the Images of my a picture of my Siberian cat. But it kept saying permission denied. Not a very useful error message. Why? It seemed to let me add others from flickr. Why not mine from flickr?
Thanks for your patience.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As far as finding matches goes, you have to type in the exact title of the page, or it's not found.
The easiest way to find things on the site is to use Google!
Enter search strings like:
site:mahalo.com siberian cat
site:mahalo.com obama philipy
The pages I claimed were ones that I have a degree of interest in, but which I thought would also get read. No point writing stuff that no-one ever sees. I might've been wrong about what gets traffic here, but that's another story.
The best way I found of finding topics I wanted was to look in the Related Mahalo Pages section of pages that interest you. For example if you looked at that section on the Star Trek page, you'd see the pages for The Next Generation, William Shatner etc.
You can also look at all the pages in a category. e.g.

M$I have also found that you can't edit news and blogs the way you can edit links. Sometimes they are completely inappropriate to the page or you know of some that are more appropriate but you can't add them. The changeable nature of both makes them inappropriate for a Mahalo 7 and it's frustrating trying to change the names of headings anyway.
Updating the * Related Pages * , add a link, it stays, add another link, it disappears... even if i pin it = / not major, but annoying none the less.
Sometimes typing in a * Text * area, ill make a change, save it, it will apply, then if i go to edit agian, my changes shown in the text anymore, but if i hit cancel/save the changes are still shown on the site.. heheh
I apparenlty claimed 7 pages without knowning it.. I am listed as managing 10, when i really thought i only did 3.. < only updated 3 > . Under my profile section where it says * Pages Managed * , It does not list any for me, just the last day the list was updated = / so i have NO idea what other 7 pages are under my name.. Anyway to find out?

M$Please send these to mike at mahalo.com and work through them with him. We're getting there... it's a new system so it will take a little time.

M$Still, I'm enjoying the idea of creating and maintaining pages! Is there a "keep me logged in" setting?

M$I recognize that the system is new and I'm looking forward to being part of the movement. I normally take a sit back and watch approach when something new comes along but this is the kind of site that requires involvement to make it grow. I'm ready!
The question I have is this: In the "tool tip" for claiming a page there is a notation that says that you can earn up to $50 a month for managing a page but in the TOS it states that the page manager receives 50% of ad commissions. Which is it or did I misread it?

M$If a page already includes the best information, links etc for its keyword then it wouldn't need updating regularly.

M$Unfortuately with the first-come, first-served nature of claiming pages, if you wanted anything likely to be popular you had to jump right in.
As it was, I was too late for iPhone and Barack Obama, which I would have liked to manage.
The good news is there are MILLIONS of unclaimed pages at this point and as a Brown Belt you have a HUGE advantage over the white belts who can only claim two! :-)
Also, in the future there might be the ability to trade (or swap/buy) pages. :-)
Fine idea on that google site search. I use that all the time but for some reason I simply didn't think of it when doing this. It's probably just that I'm got a little excited about adding to pages that interested me and then suddenly frustrated when I couldn't find any that did. Everytime I searched no page came back at all.
