Some animals like music. Apparently this particular species of monkey does not. It seems to react mainly to whether a sound resembles one of their calls. This rock band apparently sounds like the screeches of a happy tamarin monkey. That would be a great coincidence for the band if the Tamarin monkeys had any money to spend on music.
Here's another story that concentrates on the cellist that they like:

He deliberately composed pieces using the monkey calls for inspiration and was able to create both calming and upsetting pieces.

Thanks for linking though that was really interesting. It sounds like the researchers are puzzling over the question you asked.

Why do monkeys like Metallica?
Any idea why these little guys find Metallica soothing and ignore Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis and Bach?

• Thanks for the answer; it made me laugh. I also appreciated the link to the info about the cellist and enjoyed being able to listen to the music that he composed especially to influence the mood of the monkeys.

I suspect more research will be needed, but they may be from a "metalhead" strain of monkeys. Exposure to Antharax (the band not the stuff) should help prove or disprove this. ^_^ Thanks for linking though that was really interesting. It sounds like the researchers are puzzling over the question you asked.

Isn't it obvious, it's because they are the cooliest little monkeys on the planet. I mean look at that metal beard, they just know whats cool. Ha I wonder if they would like more modern stuff, like The Devil Wears Prada or Silverstein, meh probably only the younger ones would ha!

As soon as I read your comment about the "metal beard" I immediately thought of the ZZ Top look. Nice observation. I'd love to see a video of these guys nodding their heads or head banging to metal music. That would be perfect!
