Out of curiosity, how many people (who would openly admit) on here have been diagnosed with a mental disorder? e.g. depression, OCD, bipolar

I've been medically treated for the last 4 years for severe anxiety and panic attacks, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, severe mood disorder, and ADHD... It's just nice to know I'm not alone sometimes. I've been on four different medications and have had no good results.

I am also in a situation close to yours. I get extreme anxiety and I have to take online classes and I haven't been out of the house in 3 years now. I have found that talking about it does help and I have found myself carrying around a paper bag less and less now but I still didn't feel right. I've tried EVERY anti-depressant out there and none of them worked. Finally, I got up enough courage (with the help of my mother) to go to a psychiatrist and he has me on xanax and visteril and I have not had a panic attack since. Even though I haven't experienced a panic attack yet, it is still hard but I have been working my way through it and gradually taking steps so I can actually get out of the house without feeling imprisioned. I wish the best to you and remember you have to take this one day at a time and not rush anything!

For the past month I've been on an anticonvulsant called Lamictal which is supposed to stretch out the time between my outbursts for my mood disorder. Honestly, I think it's just making me bottle it up inside. When I get angry now, I get REALLY angry. I get violent with my mom and she seems to be the only one who sees me like that and then after all is said and done I can't remember anything.

I had to stop taking the Fluoxetine and Concerta when I got pregnant with my daughter but then I restarted the Fluoxetine and had to stop again because it was causing me to have migraines... which it never did before.

All medications make me restless... so I was prescribed Trazodone which is an antidepressant and sleep aid in one but that was terrible. I have to take one 6.5 mg tablet of Ambien CR every night before 10 PM.

I know what you mean about the anger issue and I was going to include that in my answer to you but since you didn't mention it neither did I. Anyway before they started me on the medication I am on now I would get extremely angry over nothing. I have been on trazodone also and the only thing that is supposed to be used for is to get to sleep. I am no doctor but I think you should be on some kind of benzodiazapine to help with your anxiety and anger because it helped with mine but everyone is different. There is one more thing I did........I kept a log in a notebook of when I got anxious and what caused it, and when I got mad what caused it or what I was doing at the time. So record the when and why and who was around and maybe you will see a pattern forming because doctors are not around us enough to know. Then when you do see a doctor that you are comfortable with, show him your log and see what he says.

I have thought about keeping a diary about my episodes. Its just whenever I think about it, I'm not depressed. And when I do get depressed or have an anxiety attack or an anger outburst, I don't want to do anything but hurt myself and stare at the damage while sitting and drown myself in my tears or vomit/hyperventilate or scream at someone and break something. Even afterward, I don't remember much. I just remember I was upset about something and maybe even nothing... So I get confused and have partial amnesia of the event.. Some of them I don't remember at all.

I was diagnosed with depression and had crippling anxiety attacks when I was a teenager. I think I took a total of 3 different medications between the ages of 14-17. Now at 24, for a variety of reasons, I have chosen not take any medication for these things and deal with it in other ways. I completely understand your frustration about the medication, and I strongly urge you to do a lot of reading into alternative treatments for your situation. I am now a firm believer that things like this can be completely treated without drugs. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you can find something that works for you. If you'd ever like to talk about any of this stuff, feel free to send me a message.

You are certainly not alone. I think everyone has "mental health issues" of some type, and they've just been perpetuated by the drug industry. Everything is in your control.

I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder, and I admit it openly. I also have two friends who suffer from Bipolar I. One of them is nearly exclusively in a manic or mixed state. The other is ultradian, and also suffers from PTSD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Alcoholism and chronic, stubborn Insomnia. He has disphoric mania more than anything.

My medication (welbutrin) makes me very irratable and violent, and pretty much removes all of my healthy coping skills. I will be discontinuing it soon. My first friend does not believe in medication(she sees it as defeat), and she'll discontinue taking it because of her side effects (hypersomnia, disturbed sleeping pattern, Increased homicidal ideation, decreased impulse control, didphoric mania, and removal of healthy coping skills). She is on 2 depakote and one abilify. My other friend, I'm not exactly sure as to his medication, but I know that his prozac gives him some serious side effects, the first I can think of being inability/extreme difficulty holding small objects.

I'm sure you already know this, but it is important to keep trying with different medications if the ones that you are currently using don't work for you.
