How do you find meaning in life when your mind over simplifies everything and concludes that there is no point to existence?
My mind likes to figure out how everything works and it likes to make things very simple. Sometimes it take large things and makes them seem so meaningless that living becomes a burden. I have a very good hold upon myself so no worries on me doing anything =] I would just like to see what anyone has to say. I have been diagnosed with a Mood Disorder. I would explain further but frankly it would take a lot of typing and reading on your part.

I lay in bed most nights, trying to sleep, thinking about things and then I start to over think.
Say, for example, I'm thinking about what it will be like later this year when I'll be starting college. I'm really excited about college and am determined to get it right and do well this time because I've messed it up twice already. I'll then get a panicky feeling and think about all the things that could possibly go wrong and ruin it for me again this time. I start to think about what I am compared to the world, or the universe. About how small this universe could be compered to whatever's outside it. How close the Sun is to us, how big it looks in the sky compared to other stars. Stars that are already dead by the time I look at them.
Then I feel pointless :s
The main thing that keeps me on the right track is my family - they expect so much of me and love me so much that I can't bear to disappoint them any more than I already have.

Yeah family is another reason that keeps me going. I can't bare to cause them any pain because of becoming selfish. I also have looked at my life and found that I think less of how insignificant I am when I'm pushing myself further and with me starting college this late August I should be to preoccupied to even let my mind wander as so. Usually when I began to feel anxious (which for me means I began to become manic.) and I have nothing to do physically or mentally like homework or anything else my mind goes to work on everything else. I think if we just keep our selves busy we'll be alright and that we will see that our lives are not pointless because we might be doing something to further our selves or help others. thanks for the response.

I'm a schizoid, so I've had some issue with this. To me, the point of life is the pursuit of happiness, and you just need to find what that is for you. Its easy to get depressed if your doing repetitive, boring tasks. I have this theory that the brain is a muscle and it needs exercise. If its not getting the exercise it needs from exterior things, it will turn inward. Then you start thinking about everything way to much.

Yes I agree with you completely. The times when I am not being challenged or I'm not enjoying myself is when my mind begins to turn and think why am I even doing any of this? What's the point? And from there it goes to far and brings life in its entirety to question. Thanks I appreciate the response.

There is a point to everyone's existence, the journey of life is the road to finding it. Don't worry so much about the destination but all the traveling along the way is what will define your life. The meaning in my life is my children but realizing that we're only given a certain amount of time here, it is extremely important to make the best of each day. For each person that will probably mean something different but spending time over analyzing or worrying about how to please others in my mind is a waste of your valuable time. You should be considerate to everyone and let the people who love you know how much you love and appreciate them. Then go ahead and enjoy the ride, when you lose someone close to you who was way too young to die it makes you appreciate every moment you were lucky enough to be given. Life is short don't waste it, live it instead of analyzing it, and always do something you never thought you would do just to say you did it. Hope this helps.
