How to improve the skill to absorb all (most of) the details while we listen to something ?

I would like to know how I can absorb the information the teacher says while in the class. Mostly I can memorize the things I listen than I read or watch.

To retain most of the information that a teacher presents in class requires your participation. The more you practice the following skills, the more you will remember about the material presented.

1) Be prepared: Do your homework, be rested, eat regularly.

2) Sit as close to the teacher as possible. This will minimize distractions.

3) Actively listen. Look at the teacher, pay attention to what is being presented, do not be distracted by unusual mannerisms, ask yourself questions pertaining to the material being presented.

4) Take notes. Write down anything that is stressed, anything put on the white board, outlines, etc.

5) Rewrite and review your notes as soon as possible after the class.

6) Finally, discuss the ideas with other people, this will cement the information in your mind!

take notes in an outline form.
Fill in details later, and even pursue more detail from the instructor during his/her office hours.

and i've heard that what ever you write in blue pen is retained better than in black pen. Not sure if it's true, but i always choose a blue pen if i have the option!

Mastering this skills is done by expanding working memory. One way to use your working memory, while trying to listen closely, is to silently repeat to yourself every word the speaker is saying, almost the way an interpreter would, but you are doing it silently and in the same language. If it is a really tough subject try to form a study group to discuss things outside of class, and try making additional notes right after the class.
With note taking don't get too bogged down in trying to write down every word the speaker says; rather, learn to simply your notes with key words and phrases. If you are not a good note taker, one way to practice is with a local news cast or CNN. While watching the newscast write down the key points that will help you remember. Later go back and look at your notes to see how much or the story you can recall, and think about what you could have added to help you remember more.
Also be aware that adults can only hold about 7 pieces of information in their immediate (working) memory, and attention span is approximately 20 minutes.
