My advice: try to get the 'normal' 6 to 8 hours. You end up so much more productive during the day. There's no substitute for adequate sleep.

Forgot to mention that this is only weekdays. On Fridays and Saturdays I frequently stay up until somewhere between 2 and 8 AM playing games or watching movies.

I sometimes get inspired to write at very inconvenient hours, meaning I tend to stay up very late. I do aim for anywhere between 6-8. Which seems to be within the optimal amount recommend..

I typically get about 6 hours of sleep a night. I don't have a problem functioning on much less though for a few days. I used to work night shifts on an ambulance and so I can also fall asleep at any hour I want to regardless of noise or distractions. This translated into me sleeping from 4-10am for most of college rather than 12-6am like my roommate. I was more productive at night and so that is when I did all my work.

Weekdays i normally manage 6 hours but being a night wolf i quite often get less. During weekends i normally never sleep less than 9 hours although not necessarily in the night.
It's not the best lifestyle, one should sleep about 8h a day, but it seems that many people (including me) use night hours to make up for time that don't have during the day.
On top of that in my case it does not help that my wife suffers of insomnia and i often stay up with her.
