I think marijuana is addictive the same way Mahalo Answers is addictive. You can get hooked to anything from food to the internet, gambling, sex, etc.
There's no evidence that marijuana causes a physical addiction, though (as alcohol, cigarettes or painkillers can cause). It can very well cause a psychological/emotional dependency like anything else can. But you won't see people writhing in fits of withdrawal because it just doesn't happen that way.

So I do believe that marijuana addiction as this pervasive social evil is definitely conservative propaganda. I guess they can't focus on the more serious problems of painkiller addiction or alcohol addiction as their poster boys like Rush Limbaugh would then be contributing to the social evil.
It's easier to blame it on kids. I have to confess I find the marijuana PSA's hilarious especially when i think that I went to college with people that smoked every day and they graduated with honors, got great jobs and got into amazing grad schools. I could never smoke very much, though. It flared up my asthma.

I think marijuana can be as addictive as anything else: gambling, sex, cigarettes, video games. Anything can be addictive.

The problem with marijuana is the connection with a "criminal" element. If you're smoking marijuana, then you have to be connected with something illegal (unless you're getting it from a medical establishment). Being involved with illegal elements might get you more involved with illegal elements.

I agree. Marijuana can be addictive just as anything else can be addictive. I don't think it's particularly addictive on its own.

Yes it can be addicting, I've know people that just had to have it everyday but also others that have used it but it wasn't a big thing for them to stop.

BTW My name has nothing to do with smoking marijuana, I don't smoke anything.
