You could do something similar to how ski lifts do it, by forming a marriage of the two wires. This is basically unraveling both wires, weaving them together, and then respinning the remainder. This has the benefit to making minimal disturbance (bump) in the wire while being EXTREMELY strong...

How can I join two pieces of 3/4 inch wire rope to form a branch without (1) weakening main line or (2) creating a large bump in the line?
The main line runs essentially horizontally for 300 feet between two supports under significant tension. It's a ride called a zip line. I want to add a branch near one end. Not so much a Y but more like the bottom half of a k. The main line needs to maintain its strength and the join point needs to be reasonably smooth so that a trolley can roll over it.

However, I STRONGLY urge you to seek the assistance of someone who is experienced doing this.
Zip Line rides are usually high off the ground and involve a large number of variables including tension, friction, load weight, sway, age, etc, etc.
"Knots" are very specific and while you're not creating a true knot, it will be VERY important to ensure the safety of riders.
