It doesn't matter where you are or what there is to see. Valentine's day is about the person you are spending it with.

After my husband and had our kids it seemed like there was never any money in the budget for Valentine's Day because everything extra was going to the kids. So, he surprised me on Valentine's day by reciting a love poem that he had memorized. It sounds very hokey but it was the best Valentines day gift I ever received. Because to me it represented a real effort and an amount of time that he spent just thinking about me.

After that year he tried to get alittle more creative and he wrote a Valentines Haiku and then a Valentines Limmerick ( which was all time and not dirty at all ).

You have a few days so try and think about what she would love and go with your instincts. Girls tend to like when you have gone out of your way to show them that you think they are special - not how much money you spend at a certain restaurant.

Watching a sunset together is one of the most romantic things you could do ( just make sure you have an extra coat with you because romantic only goes so far if you are getting cold).

Good Luck and happy romance.

Ok - there are a million great restaurants to go to. If you want to do something interesting restaurant-wise, choose from Pulitzer Prize winner food critic Jonathan Gold's list of interesting places.

If you're not into the usual - try one of these:

If you're bold - sneak up to the Hollywood sign and have a bottle of wine underneath the D.

Go register a star under your loved one's name (International Star Registry)
take them to the Griffith Observatory and show them their star.

Book a trip to somewhere - anywhere - from LAX. Blindfold your loved one and take them on a weekend getaway. I had a friend who recently blindfolded their girlfriend - took them to LAX - pretended they were going to Montana (they actually took them to that gate) when in fact they were going to Paris for the weekend.

One more unique adventure (and there are a million). Rent a presentation projector. Grab a great rooftop with a wall or somewhere you can project on. Create a gourmet meal (picnic or otherwise) and then show a great movie (preferably one your date will love) on the side of a building, etc...somewhere big.)

For a child-like evening - go to Disney and then go to dinner under the stars at The Blue Bayou (in Pirates of the Carribean)

Romance on the cheap - create a fun evening at home. Set up drinks at one place, dinner at another...plus popcorn and a movie...all done at home..just changing out the decor...your date will love your ingenuity...
