Marques Colston of the New Orleans Saints has played 4 seasons in the NFL. He has had over 1,000 yards receiving in 3 of those 4 years.
In 2008 he had 98 receptions and had 70 in both 2006 and 2009. Although recognized as a good receiver, it doesn't appear to me that he's getting the recognition yet as one of the top receivers in the league. I think he's elevated himself to that status. Maybe having just won a Super Bowl will get more people around the country to see how great of a player he is. Am I off base by putting him in the upper echelon of receivers in the NFL today? What are your thoughts on this?

Marques Colston is an amazing receiver, who possesses good size and even better hands. He should certainly be regarded as one of the top receivers in the NFL. That he was a seventh round pick makes his elevation to star receiver even more amazing.
The problem for Colston, as far as getting more recognition, is who he plays for/with. Between Drew Brees and Sean Payton, the New Orleans Saints put the ball in more players hands than most teams. This limits Colston's ability to put up even bigger numbers, and keeps him from being a true feature receiver. When the Saints want to make a play late in a game, they might throw to Colston, who can out leap most defenders, but they might also go to a half-dozen other players. And without that "go-to" cachet, it's hard to a guy like Colston to get the same level of attention as other, comparable, players.
