Many cartoons today are not suitable for children. Can anyone tell me why?

We were looking for cartoon books online one afternoon and all of a sudden I realized what I was looking at - the cartoon girl was not wearing any underwear and it was quite graphic. Amazing.
It seems like shows go from Sesame Street / Teletubbies / Wiggles / Barney to Ed, Ed, and Eddy and other crazy cartoons that I really can barely understand.
We have always had Wiley Coyote but everything has upped the ante and kids are exposed to more and more grown up content.
The only thing we can do on the TV is to get a TiVo with parental controls or restrict our kids viewing "manually" ( what a concept ) and then online by downloading the KidZui browser.
Finally, I just was sent research showing that families that play video games together were more likely to have kids that were smarter about keeping themselves safe online and from violent shows on TV.
So, play games with your kids and while you do talk to them about this stuff - it really works no matter how young they are.

M$"Cartoons" like The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, anime and so forth are not really intended for children - they are intended for adults, or at least teens. Think of it as the difference between Sesame Street and CSI - both are live action, but one of them is probably not the best choice for your five-year-old.

M$I haven't even heard of Barnyard, sorry. I agree with you on Adult Swim, though. It is far beyond anything appropriate for children. Further, it doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities for adults.
Have you looked at older cartoons, though? As a comparison to the women in Adult Swim, I suggest you look at the character "Red" in the MGM cartoon "Red Hot Riding Hood," or of course, Jessica Rabbit in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" It is not entirely a new problem.
I understand what you're saying but i'm thinking of it as i.e. have you ever seen Barnyard? When the movie first came out it was good and cute then seemed like it got so may ratings and now it's a cartoon series. I've watched it many times before and i thought it was suitable enough for my son to watch . Now it seems like they are pushing it too far. I mean i so oppose to certain episodes those things for children at a really tender age are too sexual. In this day and age and society it is so hard for our youths and I think all that is just too much for kids to consume. Those things poison the childrens minds. Also, have you watched the cartoon network after hours? I mean come on, its suppose to be cartoons for kids regardless whether it's after hours or not. There is this late night show on cartoon network called "Adult Swim" It is too intense, even for teens. Females in adult swim have huge breasts, they push up to the men, flirt, kiss and so forth. I believe if you gonna show adult cartoons dont put them on the cartoon network where kids watch all the time put it on a different late night channel such as HBO, Showtime etc. I think that our kids are being exposed to too much too soon. Now I have to sit and watch each cartoon and monitor a cartoon before my son could call it one of his favorites think its sad.
Thank you for the reply.

I do agree with your answers and your reply because I do play video games witth my kids but some parents should also pay close attention to the ratings so they could choose suitable games for their children age bracket.
