All of your cosmetics should be kept in a cool, dry place. If your bathroom is particularly warm (above 75 degrees fahreheit), you may want to find a different location to store your cosmetics. Always keep them out of direct sunlight.
If you are developing an eye infection, it is best to stop using all eye products until it clears up. (I know, easier said than done) If you do have an eye infection, throw out your mascara immediately. Megsmakeup is correct, mascara should be used no more than 3 months. The dark, damp environment inside a mascara tube is great home for bacteria. For this reason, you should also never share mascara.

Several years ago, I had a problem with recurring eye infections and my doctor told me to throw out all my eye makeup. It was tough since there were some really cool colors that were discontinued. I purchased all new stuff, throw it out regularly, and haven't had another infection since.

Does heat affect makeup? Is it bad to leave it in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom?
Specifically mascara? I have been using the same one for a while now. I don't use it every day but lately just one eye has been bothering me. I don't think it is infected but I wanted to know if it could be from the mascara.

Tsharon, you really shouldn't use your mascara more then 3 months. After that it will get clumpy and just not work well, see if it smells a little. That's a sign its gone bad. I like Tarte's Lash Camera Lashes mascara. or Kiss Me Mascara from Blink. They don't clump and have a decent shelf-life.. They work the same from day 1 to day 90. Hope this helps!

They should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and with the lids firmly closed
