Purchase a cheap orbital sander and lightly sand down all areas. Apply 2 coats of good (not cheap) oil based primer. Lightly sand all areas with a sanding sponge, then apply 2 coats of semi-gloss latex paint. Do not use a dark colored paint if doors are exposed to direct sunlight. Hope this will help.

What type of rust protection and paint do I need for my front door and garage door?
The front door and garage door are metal. What kind of paint and rust protection should I use? Any ideas? Do I need to sand/grind down the garage and/or front door any in order to apply a rust protection layer? How -- grinder? sandpaper? chemicals? There is slight rust on the garage door, although very minor.
What types of paint should I use on these surfaces?
