Also being around friends or family is essential. So calling a taxi as early as possible is important, unless people are just going to sleep over which is even safer. Hungover drivers are dangerous but not as dangerous as drunk drivers.

I highly recommend doing a "midnight run" if they have them in your area. (note: if you tell us where you are we can help more!)

I know this is obvious and normal but good Champagne should at least come out for New Year's. (I actually think sparkling wine is vastly under-appreciated year-round and its a shame that so many bad tasting alcoholic beverages are so much more socially acceptable generally). Also being around friends or family is essential. So calling a taxi as early as possible is important, unless people are just going to sleep over which is even safer. My suggestion is, if possible, be with at least 10 people. That's what makes it the most fun, be around more than just a few people (friends and family of course, people that you like). It would be ideal to have a nice wide screen TV to watch the ball drop on, have a variety of snacks and drinks (based on your preferences) and a few activities for your guests such as board games or any other games (assuming that you would be hosting the party). Music is always good! Just no drama, please. Haha
