My sink will drain, but not all the way, ideas?

I have a double sink in my kitchen.  I can run water into both sides and the water will drain, but not all the way, leaving an inch or two on each side.  Any ideas to why this is happening or how I might fix it would be appreciated!

I agree that it may be a partial clog in the drain. When you have high standing water in the sink, the pressure from that amount of water is enough to let a little bit of flow through the clog.

Once the water level reaches a lower point, then the water pressure is not enough to push through the clog, hence the standing water.

You can try to mechanically dislodge the clog using a plumbing snake but that is a stopgap measure only as you may only be encouraging a new clog to form farther down the pipe.

Do you have a garbage disposal? I'm assuming you've already run it if you do. Go buy a bottle of Drano and pour it in. You probably have a partial clog.

I avoid chemical products to unclog drains. That stuff can eat away at your pipes and you could be paying to repair it later o. Since this is your kitchen sink, you could have a grease clog forming. The attached link provides you with homemade remedies for unclogging your sink.

Clogs happen. Eventually everyone has to deal with one of them.
My wife always wants to pour drain cleaner immediately. Although I appreciate the proper use of chemicals (I'm a chemist) - chemical drain products should only be used as a last resort.
A partially draining kitchen sink can often be cleared with very hot water. Boil a large amount (a gallon or more) and pour into the clog. Repeat this until you are sure the drain action is not improving.
Opening up the drain is not difficult and most people can remove and replace drainpipe without calling a plumber.
Ace has a nice video about clearing drains without removing pipe (see
