I have always been told this also. Something about it will clog up the drain after a while.

Here we go, found this
"Do not put coffee grounds or eggshells into your disposal. They create very tiny granular waste that will stick to any sludge in the pipe and quickly create a clog."

I also see a lot of places that say it is ok to do this, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

About a month ago, my clothes washer backed up into my kitchen sink. When my husband used a plumbing snake to get the clog out, it was mostly eggshells and coffee grounds. I only rinse a few grounds off my Aeropress daily, after I pop the "puck" into the trash or into a jar to put in my compost later. And I've only been drinking coffee about a year! But I was daily putting 2-3 eggshells down it. No more!

Coffee grounds can get packed into the drain and plug things up..

If you are going to try to wash coffee grains down the drain, let the water run before putting them in and also put them into the sink a little at a time.. Put too much in at once and you will get jammed. :)
