With something as potentially dangerous to your health as a leaky gas line, I would ALWAYS leave that kind of thing to a professional.

If you messed something up, how would you know before it was too late to do something about it?

Not to mention that you'll probably have to lay down a whole new line through the walls (unless there was a gas stove in there at some point, you will). Do you really think that kind of job is a DIY?

Based upon my background in the insurance industry, I would always say hire a professional AND make sure they are insured. It isn't worth taking chances.
