MAHALOANS' OPEN QUESTION CHECK! At my neighborhood supermarket, the sound system occasionally breaks into the rockin' tunes and reminds...
I don't remember why, but this morning I checked my "Open Questions" list (in your profile, select "Questions" tab, then "Open Questions") and found one question with a few answers. I hustled over and selected a Best Answer.
Since Mahalo went to single stage voting and ended up auto-selecting NBA's on hundreds (or thousands) of deserving answers, I have become very aware of the need for all of us to either select BA's on our own questions and to vote on other q/a's (especially Anon's).
So, I have been using the "Expiring Questions" tab (on the Answers front page, top right) to vote as many open Q's as I can. I have been hoping to get rid of the super-old Q's (more than 4 days old, that are either tied or no answer has yet received a helpful/unhelpful vote). Out of curiosity just now, I paged through at least a dozen pages of super-olds.
While many are Anon's Q's (which we all need to vote on), there are tons of great Q's asked by great Mahaloans! Some are default tips, some are sister-site tips, a couple were high tips. If EVERYONE OF US took just a few minutes every now and then to select BA's/NBA's on their old Q's, we could whittle down that list in no time!!!
Sooooooooo...........
MAHALO OPEN QUESTION CHECK time!
(p.s. and irony alert: I will not be able to select a BA on this Q until - if anyone answers before tomorrow ;-) - after the clock runs out. So, if you see some answers here, vote helpful/unhelpful for them! Thanks!)
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Basically having anon questions invites people to use Mahalo without the hassle of registering. This seems good. They can ask a Q and if it works out - maybe they will ask more or join up. It all helps the page rankings too.
But there seems no way for an anon person to vote a BA on a Question. So there is a huge disincentive for community members to answer anon questions - which will surely mean that occasional users will not get useful answers and so Mahalo will become a closed community of people asking and answering their own questions. Which will therefore ultimately stagnate and die. (too dramatic maybe :-))
So:
- maybe Mahalo could ask anon visitors who ask questions for an email - so they could get an email when the Q is answered and Mahalo could prompt them to vote the best answer so that other occasional people's answers would also get answered.
- or help them bookmark the Q so they can return to it later.
This would allow anon questions to be answered at the same preference as registered user's questions... The world would be a better place. Peace and happiness for all....

M$After trying a few of the expiring questions, I didn't get to far because you have to re login on some of the sister sites, I wonder if their is a way around that problem.

M$There are quite some questions like that in “Expiring questions”.
The question will not go NBA even with no vote and due date reached.
I ask in this question of mine.

The point of anon questions is that people can remain anonymous when asking things they'd rather not have their name attached to. This is why anon Q's must have community voting to determine BA/NBA.
