Who is building pages? Are you loving it?

What kinds of pages are you creating? Are there pages that you've looked at and said "Man, I'd love to work on that page!"

I can't wait to see what everyone is doing!

I'm taking a break from building pages right now! And I'm BOTH loving it and hating it more than I thought I would.

LOVE that it is fun to search images, and really dig my hands into the dough that is my subject matter. Such fun! I feel like I'm really delivering the best in photos, news, etc.

HATE the mechanics of trying to figure it out - like why, whenever I upload a photo from Flickr to my page, it squishes and pixellates it all to tar. Good grief!

Also hate stressing over "spacing out" my new finds to save material for next week and the week after. This once a week rule is going to give me premature gray hairs I think!

Right now I'm working on Robert Pattinson's page,
http://www.mahalo.com/robert-pattinson

and then I'll move on to Twilight, Stephenie Meyer, and assorted Harry Potter pages that will be fun. I LOVE working on such fun material! (That's why I didn't choose anything too dry or political.)

By the way, @bernices, every page I thought "Man, wish I had that page!", were ones you had already grabbed. Ha! I think I covet your Big Brother 11 page the most. ;)

Aww... Yeah, Big Brother is my thing. I live for it! I'm a total reality television junkie!

There's almost always new stuff to add and delete weekly. For movies, you can add new reviews, new photo stills as they come out, trailers. Be sure to look for local news in the town they are taping in, that's where some of the best finds are!

I imagine you'll quickly get the hang of once a week updates. Won't take near as long as you might think!

I still have a few questions about this. My question was knocked off the main page in the transition back-and-forth between Mahalo 1.0 and 2.0....

Have a look:

http://www.mahalo.com/answers/mahalo-answers-community/my-questions-about-managing-mahalo-pages

So basically, I'm waiting to do anything significant.

I'll wait until the transition between 1.0 and 2.0 is given the "all clear" and things are stable. I'd hate to put work into a page and have the content vanish.

Also, I'm *VERY* curious about the 7 day management time limit.
I don't want to put a ton of work into a page only to loose the revenue and relinquish my hard work to the next person who comes along.

I think that this could be a really great system, but I know there are bugs and process flaws that are going to get worked out. So, I don't want to jump full steam ahead until these things are sorted out.

I totally understand your concerns. It will take just a wee bit more time with people in the system to truly realize every small bug.

The 7 day rule concerns me a bit too. What do I do when I'm on vacation? Hubby would KILL me if I took my computer with me, but I sure wouldn't want to lose all my hard work.

Maybe claim a page that doesn't mean the world to you, just to get used to the mechanics of it?

Yes, the 7 day rule and the meaning of "significant change" are my main concerns. On two counts...

a) Not every topic has important new info every week. For example, I've claimed pages for the Star Trek The Next Generation and The Wire. They're both finished, and there really shouldn't be any significant new info on them every week.

b) Workload. If I had to spend half an hour per page per week, it would be unworkable to manage more than a few pages. And the return on my time would be poor as well.

True, @philipy. I'm not sure what Mahalo plans to do about those types of pages. Maybe a tier system based on the "hotness" of the page? Like, news would have to be updated daily for a limited time, then go to weekly. Upcoming movies and tv shows, weekly. Old movies and books, monthly.

It might be a lot of trouble to implement though, as I have no idea about the inner workings of programs.

From having updated thousands of pages, many updates take as little as 5 minutes. True, some take more. But 30 minutes once a week on one page is way to much for almost any page we have at Mahalo, with the exception of breaking news and a few other categories. I know you'll find a way to balance it. I have faith in you, and most everyone from Answers!

Yes and no. I'm just a white belt so I only have one page, but I've noticed the following:

The editor functions so far seem to be well thought out and powerful while locking my to the consistency of the site design. My page looks like the rest of the site which is both a positive and a negative.

However, a few times my changes didn't take, and twice now while adding a new "section" to my page, there was html code embedded in the window -- i deleted it and moved on, but it was a passing strangeness.

I feel a little overwhelmed right now. The possibilities are limitless when you really think about it. I'm just waiting for the dust to settle (bugs and glitches) until I dive head first into the abyss!

Here is a rough draft I made last night on building mahalo pages @bernices. I'm sure you'll find it interesting (evil laugh).

I tried to claim a couple this morning, and got booted out. Then my changes didn't take.

I'm really eager to claim certain topics that I know a lot about, but I don't have a lot of time to work with it at the moment, so I'm guessing someone else will end up with those topics, which is disappointing to me.

I'm with Rob on the 7-day management time limit. Some of the topics I'm interested in don't change frequently at all, and like Rob, I wouldn't want my efforts to go do waste.

So I'm not jumping on topics right now. Easyeboy said the same thing in Rob's thread. I need to wait until more of the bugs are worked out. I'm not always the most patient of people, so this is hard.

Like I said in other comments, it shouldn't take too long to work the bugs out and get everyone's questions all answered. I so wish I had all the answers for you!

I'm sorry you've had trouble with the system already. What pages did you try working on?

It would've been a good idea if they'd opened up the system to just upper belts for a few days first, so we could have a look around, get used to things and pick our pages. That way would've ensured the hot pages would be in good hands.

At the mo some of pages that might get the most traffic are with white belts. They might turn out to be great contributors, or they might not.

But it's done now, no point fretting about it.

I claimed the "Benign Tumors" page.

I find that the design already had alot of intelligence behind the questions. The pages are frameworks that direct context, a very interesting idea. This is helpful because, it directs the content scope. The designer did a good job thinking about how to encourage participation but keeping the participation from becoming useless noise.

I think Mahalo suggestions and encourage on the page development will be very helpful.

Encouragement sent! I'm sure you'll do fine!

Have you thought of creating a page from scratch? What other topics might you be interested in or have a detailed knowledge of?

Search in Mahalo (not Answers) on the page title you want to create. If we don't already have that page, a box will come up on the right asking you what the page is. Select the proper term. A box will pop up for you to write a guide note and your fast facts. Hit save, and your page will be created. Feel free to add stuff from there! And have fun with it!

I am currently working on http://www.mahalo.com/music-genres .

My only issue is redirecting other similar searches to this one. For example, I want to claim "Music Categories", "Musical Categories", "Music Taxonomy", "Music Genre Tree", "Musical Types", "Musical Styles". I feel like claiming all of these, but it doesn't make sense to me to create one page for each term. I tried the redirect feature but it doesn't work.

I believe the redirects are a known issue, and the developers are working out a fix currently. I can't wait to see your finished page!
