One way I try to improve click through rate is by putting text sections next to ad blocks that have great keyword phrases in them. The ads are pulled in depending on what you have on the page and how it matches what ads Google has available.

Another thing I do is put a video or picture right above or below an ad block. They spend a longer amount of time on the page when watching a video, which can increase the likelihood of them seeing an ad that interests them.

Combine those two tips by having great keywords in the description on your featured object to pull better ads.
