Mahalo Points, what are they and why is it important to earn them?
I have read Mahalo's information page, but then based on Q and A's I have read, I am confused. I get that the points increased my rank in terms of whether I am a yellow belt or a green belt but why are these ranks important and can the points be converted into Mahalo cash?

Ranking allows you to ask and answer more questions as you earn points. Also, it is a symbol of trustworthiness of a person, whether they are asking a question or answering them.
It's not foolproof: just because you have a high belt does not guarantee you can deliver the right answer all the time. However, unlike something like a post count on a messageboard, the point count on Mahalo shows that you were awarded a high number of points for a good answer, and it takes a while to move up to the higher belts.
