Mahalo! Help us name our baby!!

I even ran this one by my bride! She's curious to see what our worldwide community can come up with too! So let's have it - but please, real names and something you'd want to actually name a child (not, say... a pet or a plant...)
We'll do both boys and girls (cause we don't know yet) and if you want to do a middle name, that would be even nicer!
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Oh, wow, no pressure...

It would really help us out if you could give us some info about you and your family. What your interests, likes and dislikes are. If you are OK with a kid being "named after" someone or something, and if there are any "no" names due to previous people in your lives.

Also, are there any religious requirements for the name? Like, for some Christians, first and middle name must be saints names.

Knowing your family (last) name also comes into play to make sure it fits well with that name.

I'll give you a few ideas if I can. Here's a list of the most popular names, by year, over the past 130 years, from the Social Security Administration. It's great for getting ideas.

http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

FIRST NAMES
Boys:
Simon
Zeke
Chris
Cory
Parker (could be for both)

Girls:
Ana
Hannah
Romana
Lucy
Katherine
Kaylee
Zoe

MIDDLE NAMES
Lazarus
Mendlesshon
Isis
Rose
Lyle

I never met an Elizabeth that I didn't like.

Every one of them always had a shortened version of their name:
Liz
Liza
Eliza
Beth
Elli

There is nothing better than a name that a girl can take and make her own.

2nd choice is Alex for a girl or boy. Again it conjures up ancient and powerful images.
(Alexandria or Alexander)

I guess you're Irish, so maybe you'd like something with a Celtic flavor.

Personally if I were naming a baby I'd keep to names that are easy to spell and pronounce, and timeless rather than fashionable.

With those thoughts in mind, maybe something like...

For a boy: Robert, Patrick, Owen, Sean, Alex, Dylan

For a girl: Alice, Gwyneth / Gwen, Siobhan, Kiera, Cara

Siobhan is a lovely name, but the spelling throws people! :)

boy

Girl
Mackenzie, which is a very pretty Gaelic name
Mackenzie is a subtle reference to Kurt Weill/E. Bertolt Brecht/Marc Blitzstein, ``Mac the Knife,'' made most famous by Bobby Darin, with its line ``Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear. And it shows them pearly white.''
Charisse seemed like a nice fit. Of unknown origin, it leaves open the possibility for self definition.
So MACKENZIE CHARISSE for a girl

Boy:
Mack, which means masculine or Man
McGrath as a middle name. The middle name is an Irish surname that means ``Son of Grace.''
So MACK McGRATH for a boy

I look forward to following this wonderfully creative question. Thank you.

You can name your baby Angela / Angelo.
Reasons:
1. This name is easy to write.
2. You write these names (Angela / Angelo) the same way in many languages that come from Latin.
3. Many people make a connection between people and their names. These people will think that your child is an angel, even without knowing her/ him.

I always like quite eccentric names (not too much though, haha), like if it's a guy, then Tyler, Jason, or Nathaniel - all strong names. My second name is Alan which I think is quite cool, and I've always liked Alex as well.

I really like Anna as a girl's name (likely to be stuck on some boys' minds ;), also Tamarin, or Rachel.

Best wishes!

I've always thought Radley was kinda cool for a boy. Good sports name. Inspired by To Kill a Mockingbird's Boo Radley character. If I'd had a son that is probably what I would have named him...middle name option, as well.

I think Keaton is a solid choice and very non-gender specific, as well as unique.

Good luck.

I'll give you some ideas from the classical school of baby naming - I'm not as much into the "last names as first names". I think they're nice enough...just not quite my taste. I like the classics.

And for middle names, I prefer to have fun and go a bit exotic. These are choices I might be too shy to choose as first names, but are fun and STRONG middle names:

GIRLS -
~~~~~~~~
Lucy
Jane
Grace
Ruth
Megan
Maeve
Ruby
Tessa
Katherine
Anne / Annabelle
Elizabeth
Charlotte
Joyce / Joy
Violet
Kendra
Caitlin
(MIDDLE NAMES): All above mentioned names, Helena, Rosalind, Fiona, Gillian, Olive, Pearl, Faith
BOYS -
~~~~~~~~
Sean
Aaron
George
Levi
Nathan
Henry
Maxwell
Samuel
James
Matthew
Graham
Alexander
William
David

(MIDDLE NAMES): All above mentioned names, Edison, Phinneas, Rupert, August, Oscar, Silas, Xavier, Sebastian

Be sure to keep us posted on what you choose! We'll all be itching to know- and we won't tell a soul, we swear! Shhhhhh.....

Congrats!

My feeling is surprise that parents would want somebody else to name their kids. It is interesting so in order to make it more interesting maybe you should research a little bit on names.

I think that you will like this site for your final selection.

is here to explore. The site name is "The Baby Name Wizard".
It is quite clever.
