Hooey! This sound like a hootenanny! I can't wait...oh, except that it's during the week. Drat!

For future barn raisings, might I request that they take place over a weekend? Give us parents and working stiffs a good run at things. Otherwise, I think I'm probably out of the running before it's even begun.

Oh, one other idea that might remedy that situation for the future - maybe offer a big cash prize to one lucky randomly chosen person. Draw from a pool of people who have finished X number of tasks. That way even if we're not on the leaderboard, maybe we still have a shot.

Overall though, I love me some contests and am VERY excited to give it a go with what little time I can scrape together. :D

Shoot! ... I suspect that it would take a whole day to place in the top 3... sadly, a whole day "off" / redirected from my primary work is tricky.

But it sounds like a really great contest! Hopefully I'll catch the next one!!!!

Isn't barn raising a bit outdated but I suppose it could be fun.

This is going to be a great effort.... building out 1,000 pages in a category and giving prizes to the top three contributors in addition to the Tasks fees is very motivating me thinks!

Well done Lon!

will this contest be reserved for members with a green belt and up like all other tasks?

Excellent question...We will leave these Tasks open to any belt levels, so all have a chance to participate.

Again... thanks for making a contest. I like contests... they're fun and keep things lively. Thanks a lot for organizing this, Lon & co.

Here are a couple of questions. You may be covering these in the live announcement and if so, feel free to ignore this completely.

1)
The folks participating are going to be building out 1000 pages within a single category and completing tasks?

Does all work need to be completed within 24 hours?

2)
Will the tasks that are part of the contest still be tipped?

While I won't have enough time on Tuesday to place in the top 10 (let alone top 3 for the real cash), if I help out ... will I still have the opportunity to pick up a M$ here-and-there for completing the tasks?

If so, I'll try hard to block off a "long lunch" that doesn't involve my regular "long lunch" activities of tall glasses of Rye at the local pub... although, I do get wifi there... hmm.

3)
Is there any chance that you could swap out 1st prize for maybe a Tesla?

:) j/k of course... M$200 is a fair rate for a hard days work and I'll look forward to seeing who scores it!!!!

regarding when the work has to be done, I think the way Lon is going to run it is by ending the barn raising when the 1,000 Task gets completed. I'm guessing it will take 2-4 days for the contest to complete. People should be able to do 3-5 page an hour in my experience.

Lon's going to go into all the details during the podcast.

Also, of note, the tasks will all be at M$2 or M$3 so we're not asking folks to do this for free or anything... plus you can take ownership of the page at the end and get the revenue share!

I just thought of something Rob...
What if this barn raising is so popular that MA stands still?!
(that would be weird, wouldn't it?)
I just hope that during that 2-4 day period we don't pull over as many tweets since we already have such a backlog.
I've been working hard on the backlog of old questions (clicky, click)

Sounds like fun! Except that I can't participate. Why is the ability to perform tasks locked to belt level if the pages thing was changed? Is it possible to get tasks labeled on a per-case basis? If one was to look at my pages, one would see I do good work. It's a shame I can't do more. I love working on mahalo.

We can actually set tasks by belt level and Lon stated above in the comments that he is going to open this to all belt levels.

Crap, of course the most interesting contest yet is going to happen when I'm in some mud and straw village in Central America with no internet service.

Hopefully this will be successful enough you'll do it again soon.

Not there yet today, but Sunday I'll be in a small village in Honduras (yep, that country where the government got overthrown last week) trying to install a water pipe.

Hopefully the new government there is still friendly to foreigners.

This sounds like fun... but it puts some of us at a disadvantage because of the tasks that we are able to accept at each belt level... so seems to me that some of us will be cooling our heals waiting for approval of our tasks while others are being able to work at far more tasks then us. Not to say I wont try... but I am guessing a greenbelt wont be winning. Would be nice if while working on this barn raising that we were all playing on a level playing field. Just my two cents. But a fun idea anyway.

I am glad to see the BARN-RAISING CONTEST. Usually, I will take 2 hours minimum to complete one task.(my editing and re editing...spell checking and grammar..)
It is very fulfilling to see one task is accepted.

I just submitted three complete tasks and the system won't let me take on any more, even though my belt level is supposed to allow four. Just thought I'd mention it.

I'm sorry, but I'm a little disappointed in how this is running. I'm sitting here in a Dunkin Donuts, nice and comfy, and finding my tasks aren taking hours to get approved. If they would only get approved faster, I could do so much more. *sigh*
