Here's my version: Mahalo features a point system that allows you to do more things every time to advance, such as ask more, answer more, etc. This makes it harder for people to spam, and forces some to contribute, at least a little. The best way to level up, of course, is getting best answers, because on top of the 2-4 points you get for answering a question, you can get an additional 10 points for having the best answer. Later on, it's also good to vote, because you can get a bunch of points, and help to vote for people's answers.

I was going to give you the links, they are at the bottom of most pages, but I see you have been given them. The idea of working a hard to get to a level where you can make money is not much of an incentive it turns out, since not that money is to be had. Still the site is fun, interesting, and sometimes challenging.
