First off, I agree that it is bass-ackwards that a questions forum like ConundrumLand is guarded by the Birthday+ZIP Code specter. I have encounter several persons on Mahalo who are under the legal drinking age, not that that could ever stop a person from accessing ConundrumLand.

Regarding birthdays, I would just put in a fake one to satisfy the US age 21 limit. I cannot think of a single time I have ever let lying about my birthday slow down my access to a site. Now for purchasing or other official transaction...that is another story all together.

Anyway, more to the point of ZIP Codes. Conundrum may *emphasize may* be trying to limit access to ConundrumLand to individuals who may purchase Conundrum Wines. How does the ZIP Code affect this? Due to certain state import regulations, not all US residents can order wine online. Some US states have laws against allowing wine to be delivered to their residents.

Residents of the following states are barred from receiving shipments of wine from wineries (note that businesses may receive wine):
  • Montana
  • Utah
  • South Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • Arkansas
  • Mississippi
  • Kentucky
  • Alabama
  • Maryland
  • Pennsylvania
  • Delaware
  • New Jersey
  • Massachusetts
  • Maine

Other states have varying regulations from limiting quantities to only allowing orders if the resident places it on site at the winery.

I'll just end this by stating that I give a hoot because I do not like the taste of wine...

I also greatly dislike the taste of wine :s

I haven't let it stop me accessing the site, once I knew I could just type in a 5 digit number for the ZIP code ;)

It just seems to be another in a long line of problems being caused for Mahalo members by ConundrumLand :(

Thanks for the great answer! ;)

I support that they are trying to make a profit off of Mahalo, but I also agree they need to refine the process a lot.

If worse come to worse, you can always try one of the most famous ZIP Codes in the US... (Yes, it is a real ZIP...)

Yes it is a little annoying. If the questions don't apply to you, just enter in any 5 digit number for the zip and an age over 21 since you are legal in the UK.

I noticed that points from answering Conundrum questions don't seem to be applied to our Mahalo accounts. Also I agree that the Conundrum questions have taken over the home page. It seems more people are going to the other site to ask questions rather than asking them here on Mahalo.

Soundboy...I don't understand why she would have to enter an age...I don't remember doing so, and if I did I just put in 20....Is that a new requirement?

Yeah I think it is new. It wasn't on there before. I tried it today and I had to enter an age.

Strange...I wonder why they have you enter an age...to buy the wine yes I would imagine an age verification needed but to answer questions that could pertain to anything...weird...

Cheers @soundboy - so any 5 digit number will work?

A few weeks ago I got a best answer on a conundrum question and didn't get the tip, so I messaged @jeff and he sorted it out for me - in my message I obviously said that I hadn't got the tip OR points and he told me we don't get any points for answering conundrum questions, only the $3 tip for a best answer :(

I agree that people seem to be going over there to ask questions more, which certainly isn't good for a relatively new and growing site like Mahalo! (In comparison to the majority of the rest of the Internet).

I'm not sure why though, other than the fact that some are doing it with the added incentive of being paid something like M$10 a day for asking and answering 10 conundrum questions. That isn't the exact figure, I don't think, but it's something similar.

@tealmyster You're right, it is new, it's only just happened now and it didn't do it last night or earlier on today :s

I'm not sure if all 5 digit numbers will work, but most of them should.

First off I'm jealous...18? not fair...then again it's rare someone waits til 21 anyways!
That's weird that their isn't an option for non US residents...I know a lot of places have issues with canadian zips as well since they have numbers and letters...
I would say just use an American zip code you don't do pay outs through Conundrumland or anything, so what would it hurt?

Some of the questions there I cannot help but answer, cause there are some really good ones...

Sorry if this answer isn't quite what you're looking for....to be honest your question was a little hard for me to follow...

Hope it helps tho...you know I always try Lily! :)

Same here tealy (can I call you tealy? Guna do it anyway... lol) - with the minimum age being 18 here, we tend to start at around 13/14 and for lots of kids it's much younger :s

It's not just weird that there's no option for non US residents, its bloomin' stupid! They're cutting out the rest of the world, the majority of their customer base...

Sorry if my question was hard to follow - when I'm mad I sort of rant and try not to swear or SHOUT at the same time, lol. It kind of ends up just a mess of words that some people are kindly patient enough to read - like you! ;)

Your answer certainly has helped, because as much as I'm looking for an answer, I'm also looking for other people to identify with what's going on and just talk to me about it ;)

Of course you can call me Tealy a lot of people do...TealMyster is just my Nintendo Wii nickname :-p
Wow...Younger then 13?...I started drinking at 14...Yet I never really cared for it all that much.
Glad I helped a little!

These are all really interesting comments,I've had a best answer on Conundrumland, and I recently asked a question about it,but I'm still confused.
Is this true that we can earn 10$ for asking 10 questions and are they Mahalo $ or something else? Do we have to join this site separately and if so how? If they are very similar in format I can't see much point.

Hiya @enigmatic1500 ;)

I would say that, seeing as I don't quite fully understand it myself, your best bet would be to send a direct message to someone like @jeffhoard or @lon (just click on their names in this comment and it will take you to their profiles) and they will answer your questions properly.

I don't want to give you the wrong information! ;)

My understanding on the 10 Q + 10 A = M$10 is that was a limited promotion to get a group of Mahalo users to quickly get Conundrum land started. Early into the project, @lon was accepting requests to join this group, then he picked some of people to be this group. As I understand, they are the only ones that get the deal.
