You don't need to notify the staff. The points will be added to your account automatically, but it may take a couple days.

Congratulations. I still need to do that too. I have embedded a page on one of my wikis.

I think you get the points either by submitting it as a direct question to a Mahalo employee or your post here.

The following pages do not reference the award mechanism. I think it was posted in an Answer long ago.
