I am with you on this. I have seen questions with less than the 3 dollar default Conundrum tip get let go to the back. I think Mahalo wants us non conundrum question askers to rely on the generosity of other interested parties with their team tips.
You are right the artificial overvaluing of the Conundrum questions at 3 dollars places them in the advertisement category and therefore *spam*.
Hopefully this unfair overfunding of the basically non research or even fact oriented Conundrum questions will be over soon and they get the same 25 cent default distinction as the rest of the questions.
Here is the solution(s) I would like to see.
1.Mahalo can bring the default tip on all asked questions to 3 dollars restoring the uniformity and fairness to the front page.
2. Bring the value of the all questions including the Conundrum questions to the default value of 50 cents. A fair value to all.

They could be put in a separate category to make the site easier to use, but I wouldn't complain about having so many of them around.

Here was my question that I just asked.

I'm brand new to Mahalo, so I probably should just keep quiet, but that is not in my nature. Heh!
I'm not new to the net, though, and here's my perspective:
New sites like Mahalo have to offer their services for free for awhile, until they get enough users. The aim of websites is always to get advertisers, though, so that they can become what is called a "going concern," a business that can support itself.
Advertisers like Conundrum ought to be welcomed with open arms. They are what allow websites to continue to exist. Mahalo almost certainly will have more such advertisers in the near future. We should learn to like them, or at least to live with them. Mahalo will undoubtably go out of its way to make them feel welcome and at home. Mahalo wants their advertising revenue.
Users won't be able to change Mahalo's mind on that. Mahalo gets 25 cents on the dollar for user tips, I see that. I bet you the advertisers are giving Mahalo way more than that. I bet Mahalo needs the advertisers' revenue in order to stay in business.
In other words, don't bite the hand that feeds you.
The only thing I can suggest to maybe make this go more smoothly is Mahalo could offer users more of an incentive to be nice to advertisers. I am too new to know what that would look like, though.

Answered Question
M$1.60

Has anyone else noticed this problem with tips?
Best Answer should have suggestions to Mahalo or me on how to fix my complaints.
I asked a question about 23 hours prior to this one offering a M$1.00 tip. I got a good answer, but only 1...
My question never (as far as I saw) hit the top tips on the front page because of all the ConundrumLand *coughspamcough* questions. They are all tipped at M$3.00, so you have to tip 3 or more M$ to get on that list now. I seem to remember that a few weeks ago, an M$1 question could count on getting up there for at least a few hours (depending of the number of tipped questions being submitted at the time).
So then I went to find my question in the Offering Tip area. My question has long since been buried under a ton of M$0.25 questions. I am pretty sure that when the auto-tip was M$0.37, then the Questions Offering Tips area only showed tips of M$1.00 and up.
So I guess, now, what is the point of offering a M$1 or M$2 tip any more? It doesn't seem to give your question any more notability than the auto-tipped M$0.25 questions and the ConumdrumLand support. Or am I just complaining about a know issue that Mahalo is working to fix?

• I agree with others that say Mahalo needs to monetize, but there is a lot of testing and discovery to do. I really like the idea of bringing the Conundrums below M$1, but above the Mahalo auto-tip of M$0.25

I doubt Mahalo can afford to push all questions to M$3. But lowering the Conumdrum questions value sounds like a good plan to me. They can start at M$0.95 for all I care, I just want my basic M$1 tip to out rank them.

I like having a lot of $3 questions on the front page. Previously it was difficult to find a question offering a tip for more that $0.25 that didn't already have several answers, and most of those were just for $1 anyway. Conundrums are often easier to answer, they're easier to find, and they're worth three times as much. They could be put in a separate category to make the site easier to use, but I wouldn't complain about having so many of them around.

It sounds like you are having a different problem, actually. My question is how can a M$1 question be found over the flood of M$3 conundrum questions and why are all the M$0.25 questions going into the Questions Offering Tips area?
I would suggest you send a report to contact@mahalo.com or Direct Question one of the Staff (@lon, @jeffhoard, @camilla, etc.)
