BUG: Disappearing answers and comments. Who else is seeing this?
I answered @lon's question about things to do in DC if you only have a day. I saw that a couple of other people also answered, including easyeboy. Those answers have vanished.
On my question about people's ideas of the best job in the world, several people answered. The answers are still there, but the comments I wrote on them. and the comments they wrote back have disappeared.
I pretty much stopped using MA for couple of days because it seemed there was no guarantee anything I did would even remain on the system.
Anyone else seeing this?
Any explanations?
URLs for the questions I mentioned are here. Though obviously the answers and comments I'm referring to don't show up.

I noticed it with the DC question also. It happened Friday to Saturday when they were having the database problem. I emailed and reported it; I got the following response:
Missing answer

We've had some dbase replication issues last night and this morning, this is likely the cause. We've been working on it all morning, apologies for troubles.
Max from our dev team will get back to you with an answer when he has had a moment to figure your specific issue out (he's still working on the larger issue at present).
Again, sorry, and thanks for your patience!

Thanks, that's informative. Do let me know if you hear any more.

Are your answers and/or comments spam, inappropriate or off-topic? Mahalo may vanish them because of this.
However the most likely thing is because Mahalo has been having several problems the last couple of days. If you were on Mahalo Answers yesterday, you would have noticed Mahalo Answers had problems with their database.
Mahalo may have mistakenly deleted your answers and/or someone may have reported your answers and Mahalo is just checking it.
Otherwise, a bug must be on Mahalo.

I noticed that quite a few comments, ratings, etc vanished.
It's a wild guess... but Mahalo folks likely restored some of the data taken from a slightly out of sync backup and as a result lost some of the data.
No biggie.. she's a beta and for the 3 months I've been kicking around here, this has been the only noticeable problem. That's quite a thing for a beta system.
I'm not sure... but did the lead dev, @ctmiller leave Mahalo? If so, that likely would have resulted in a bit of a hiccup solving a problem or two.

"Only noticeable problem"? I've been reporting bugs several times a week. :)
Given the type of bugs, it's more alpha than beta if you ask me.

I think entire questions have been disappearing. I hang out in the video games category. I just noticed that about 15 questions, days and months old, have just appeared when you sort by "Unanswered." They definitely weren't there before. And no, they weren't just miscategorized because I regularly search through the main MA page, sorted by "Unanswered," and those questions weren't there.
I'm guessing that these phantom questions have reappeared due to the fix recently implemented by the devs (see http://www.mahalo.com/answers/mahalo-answers-technical-issues/bug-when-i-look-at-the-main-answers-page-sometimes-i-see-my-question-and-sometimes-not-anyone-else-getting-this). But apparently, not all the issues were corrected as they hoped.
PS: In looking through the types of comments and answers you make, it seems unlikely that you would say something that would merit having your post deleted, let alone several posts. So cjd, I doubt that's what the problem is.
PSS: I usually copy my entire answer before I hit submit. That way if something happens, I won't have wasted 5 minutes of my life writing a response just to have it forever swallowed by the void.

Disappearing questions eh? I would believe Mahalo are vanishing a lot of questions that are very old and are unlikely to be answered by anyone. In the process, Mahalo may have deleted new questions or questions in a certain category.
No, these are legit questions and old questions don't get vanished. If you look through the unanswered list, there's questions nearly 40 days old and I've seen them older. Rather than vanish questions, MA instead asks the community to regularly go through unanswered questions and try to answer them. The goal of MA is to create a database of information where somebody can search at any time without necessarily having to ask an entirely new question. Vanishing old questions would defeat that purpose.
While some of the questions I'm talking about are 30 days old, they weren't always 30 days old...and yet they *never* appeared on the site (in any logically discoverable location, I should say). Not to mention, several of the questions that have just mysteriously reappeared are 10 days old, 15 days old...

PPPS: P.S. is short for Post Script, thus following entries are post post scripts or post post post scripts, not post script scripts.
If you notice, I have a question about George Washington. This is the second time that I posted it because it disappeared the first time.

Thanks, I thought I was seeing things when it appeared the second time only with no answers :-)
