Yes, I believe there should be a tip multiplier, yet this only should be once someone reaches a Black Belt. Once someone reaches this level, that has shown they are a serious contributor to Mahalo Answers, and they have committed themselves to answering questions. It would not hurt the bottom line of Mahalo Answers, because these people would have proven they are giving back to the community by answering questions.

Just my 2 cents.

However, we have been testing giving folks a Mahalo Dollar when they get to Yellow belt (Sara asks them a question, if they answer she gives them the dollar).
Also, when folks get to higher levels we will be showcasing them even more than we are now. Think the top five users in autos being listed at the bottom of every autos page and us encouraging folks to ask them direct questions... or maybe allowing only folks with a Brown belt and 50 "best answers" in Autos to answer paid question in autos (or give them a one hour head start on everyone else).
There are MANY things we can do to help folks make extra tips when we reach critical mass. Right now we have 10k folks playing with Answers a day... which is great, but it needs to get to 50-100k a day to really start heating up. We'll get there in 6-12 weeks I think.
... Answer on! :-)

Should there be a tips multiplier for belt level?
I just read a Tweet from JC:
@tcurt its just for fun... The tips r a loyalty program... Not intended to be a job per say
If the tips are for loyalty, what are the points/belts for?
Do you think there should be a tip multiplier depending on your belt level?

It would be very hard to have a tip multiplier because somebody is only paying X dollars for the question to be answered. So if there was a multiplier on that it would probably eliminate any profit made and therefore make the entire site die. Just my 2 cents.

Yes... different exchange rate... multiplier. It's all to give bonuses for loyalty, right?

It depends what you meant by multilpier. You can't give Darcy 2x the M$ that other people would get because there won't be enough real dollars in the question to pay for it. You can't credit her with 1.05 x the M$ other people would get because the system isn't designed for fractional M$. But when she withdraws the M$, you could make each one worth 80c to her instead of 75c.
If your idea of a multiplier is 80/75 then fine, that is roughly equivalent. (The difference is she's not getting not getting more points than we would for the same amout of tip, just more cash.)
If you were were thinking of a multiplier of 2 or 3, it won't work.

No multiplier
someone's dedication is rewarded with more money because they answer more questions with quality answers and therefore get more tips

There is no way we would be able to multiply the tip number.... we would lose a LOT of money if we did that. However, we have been testing giving folks a Mahalo Dollar when they get to Yellow belt (Sara asks them a question, if they answer she gives them the dollar).

The tip multiplier doesn't have to be a whole number. Right now, the multiplier is .75, right? Perhaps brown belts get .80 and black belts get .90.

ohhhh.... you mean a better exchange rate on Mahalo Dollar to real dollars.... a higher percentage essentially.
That's different. Never thought about that.... let me think about it.

Think about it this way, a black belt gains you! Using a multiplier for your top user is like paying your rockstars!

1 hour head start!?!
The problem with mahalo is answers take to long to roll in as is, so we don't need to slow things down even more!

Also, it would make it harder for anyone to ever catch up the leaders if they had to do even more work to earn the same amount of points.
