If an answer is marked best for a question, why are the links marked nofollow?

It seems to me that the links in a question's best answer deserve some search engine loving, because those are likely pages that are relevant (and deemed worthy) to the question.

This is something that we will consider for the future. We have discussed the issue in house previously and are open to the idea.
