When you're answering, there's two check boxes at the bottom of the fields just above the submit button:

Email me when someone replies to my answer
Email me when people answer this question

Uncheck the first one if you don't want to be notified if someone commented on your answer. Uncheck the second if you don't want to receive emails saying that someone else answered the same question.

These are checked by default. Just uncheck them when you're going to answer a question. :)
