Do you think that the Mahalo Answers front page should cycle questions (including new questions, unanswered, and undecided)? See details.

I'd like to see a feature where we can hide questions we have already answered or ones that we have no clue about. This could keep a fresh cycle of questions on the front page for us to answer other questions we might not be able to search out ourselves. In my opinion, there is a lot of digging around to get to questions that we can answer.

One of the possible reasons for so many unanswered/undecided questions is people having to track down these questions. What is wrong with having a new section for these questions on the front page or randomly inserting those unanswered/undecided questions on to the front page. They would get a lot more views if they spend a little while on the front page but they don't have to sit there all day.

We are working on a new homepage for mid June that will be more customized. Not only will it cycle through some unanswered questions, it will actually show you questions you are most qualified to answer. :-)

How will it figure out which questions that we are most qualified to answer?

It will probably look at what other questions you provided helpful answers for.

I've enjoyed working through the interface so far, but this new customized homepage sounds like a lot of fun. Finding a way to cycle questions through more often will also help get as many questions answered as possible, rather than some just sitting in the dust.

I agree that there is a lot of digging. I think, for one, this will need to be considered in the future, as there are still a lot of stability issues I'm worried about.

But there could be a space reserved for the type for a "random question," so that everyone is getting different random questions in that space.

I don't know about cycle, but I've always wondered why questions don't come back to the top when they get a response, like most forums.

Perhaps they could come up with something creative, like giving bonus points to questions that have been up for a while, like 2 extra after 2 days, 3 extra after 3 days, and 4 extra after four days to incentivize answering them, and having a link to them, like "Lonely Questions" complete with a frowny face. Aw. =\ I think this would be more contstructive than Hoard having to keep posting a "help answer these unanswered questions."

I think they could also adopt an optional view that shows you questions aligned with your "expertise" categories, since this info is sitting in a DB somewhere.

I like that idea of bonus points for old unanswered questions. I think that would entice more people to look for ones they may be able to answer, especially really old ones.

Maybe a point per day for the first four days would be to much, but something like 1 bonus point for 2-4 days unanswered, 2 for 5-7, 3 for 8+ would be good.

yes because if they did do that , that would help people who havent joined or people who might want to join see what they will be answering or if those questions would be something that thaye are used to. it would also attract more people who are curious about sites like these

I like the idea of hiding questions, I think it should be optional though, sometimes I like to revisit often questions I've answered, and if they were hidden off the front page after I answer them it might be less helpful.

Yes I totally agree. I should have mentioned that. It would be great to go back to a question you had no clue about, and see the helpful answers.

I think that would be a GREAT improvement. I have been to some other Q&A sites, and they have had that. I know from experience that it would make it a WAY better site.
