How flexible should it be with comments?
Some times the answer "Yeah, I saw that too" is not very useful, but some other times, the questions is very vague and the person needs to know that a certain amount of people "has seen that too". Would it fit in this category?
This could be solved by having different types of questions, like polls, surveys etc.
Can you report an unhelpful vote? or a helpful vote?

When to use the "report" button?
As you may have noticed that each Question, Answer and Comment has a report button. We use these reports as a way of managing the questionable content here in the Mahalo Answers community. I'd just like to use this thread as an opportunity to educate you when you should and shouldn't use these buttons.

When you click the report button this is what you see.

*Spam (off topic and commercial)
If you see a question or answer that appears to be a blatant advertisement for a product or service this is when you use the spam button. Also, If a user links to an affiliate site or provides an answer that is off-topic this type of report would be appropriate as well.
Off-topic includes users who provide unhelpful one/two word answers and comments that are unrelated to the question or are generic responses that don't address the question. In most cases an "unhelpful" vote will suffice, but if you believe the user is a problem use the report button and we'll look into it.
*Inappropriate (profanity, hate speech, or another violation of the Terms of Service)
The examples provided here are obvious, but also feel free to use this option as the "other" if there is something you see that is questionable feel free to use this report if you want our eyes on it.
This includes questions provided with bad grammar and spelling, it's very easy for us to fix questions when they come in with ALL CAPS or with extra????????? - We want the community to stay civil here :)
Also use this to report twitter responders, sometimes when a twitter users "Thanks" the Mahalo Twitter bot, it appears as a question.
*I think this question is illegal
(fraud or phishing, violence or threats, privacy invasion, harm to minors)
All of the above, plus add plagiarism in there. We have many plagiarism tools listed on our Copy and Pasting on Mahalo page, if you suspect it's been done use one of the tools and find out for sure, then report it is in fact plagiarism.
Finally, always provide details as to why you report. This helps us a lot.
Don't report answers and comments simply because you disagree with them, this is a waste of our time.
I trust you all will begin to use the report buttons more often, in the past month I have noticed a massive influx of new users and it's gotten to the point where my old eyes can't see everything, I need your help to keep Mahalo Answers clean and enjoyable. So there you go, proceed with caution, use this thread to ask any questions you have about the "Report" button, or just comment on how awesome I am.

Yes, absolutely report these, if anything it will bring the user to our attention and we can look into the users history and see if it's a pattern, plus we can reach out and offer them some education on how to provide helpful answers.

Yea, I agree... thats why we need to be able to comment on questions, not just answer them, like we are able to comment on answers like I am doing right now. (^_^)V

These are the perfect example of when to use that unhelpful link also. Reporting them brings it to our attention but clicking unhelpful buries it so others don't have to see it.

Naturally, use your best judgment, if you think it works fine in the question don't report it, if you do we'll still have a look at it.
You can report votes, as long as you explain why.

These reports are all viewed by moderators, it does not go towards any sort of "record" once we deal with the individual report we close the case. You can report yourself, some people do this if they want an answer removed if they have 2nd thoughts about it.
