BEST ANSWER  chosen by asker   |  hillo  |  March 04, 2009 02:25 PM
Like gabby7 I am newer to the Mahalo world. I've voted on a few open questions each day. I vote on questions I have some insight or interest in. I'll vote for a 'best' answer only if I deem that there is a clear winner and if that winning answer is on par with the responses being provided by some of our more senior members (on Mahalo) not just the best of the bunch within that group of responses.

I have not done this. Now we know the secret to Darcy's success on Mahalo Answers. It's no longer a secret. She wrote a book about this secret not being a secret.

I don't vote, simply because I have a hard enough time deciding which answers are best in my own questions, it's hard enough to figure out which is best in somebody else's question. If they abandoned their question, do they really want a best answer chosen?

Maybe this is something I should try, now that the secret is out. I was wondering.

Yeah, it's not something we'd expect you bust you back doing, a few votes here and there.

Some cases maybe, most no cases I would say no. Because so many questions come from newbs, first timers and twitterers they may not know the timeline, the concept or just plainly forget. If those are the cases then the answerers are being short changed because no answer has been chosen, its then up to us voters to ensure the best answer gets chosen.

for sure give a shot.

Yeah, it's interesting to think about. I've been trying to figure out how to pass Darcy :-) Also, maybe some of these people just ask, but don't care about rewarding a best answer. They also may not be around to choose a best answer.

I have not. Having only discovered Mahalo & Mahalo Answers yesterday, I am not quite yet a yellow belt and so am unable to vote on such things. By tomorrow I am guessing I will be able to unleash my opinions about people's questions & answers.
Thanks for the tip!

I have done some voting when I can't think of how to put together answers for other people. I pick the best answer by reading all of the answers to a question first. If there are two answers close to tied I usually choose the answer that has a workable/meaningful link (something other than a google search or Wikipedia)

I did quite a bit tonight, but I don't vote if I don't understand the question or the answers or if I don't know enough about the subject.

No, I have not. I was well aware of it but frankly it's uninteresting.

To read all the answers and vote for a question is not worth it, but I'll keep it in mind if I have freetime.

It is a good idea to vote as there are a lot of tips hanging in the balance and that can mean big points and M$ for people who have answered a lot of questions that are undecided. I try to vote everyday as this helps clear up these questions and helps people gain points and M$ with winning best answers through votes.

I discovered undecided questions yesterday as I was about to suggest that very feature. I was wanting to answer questions that may have been overlooked (and that I could actually answer). Since it didn't have its own tab, I didn't think it existed, hence my almost suggesting it. Then I clicked on the "sort by" pull down menu and found it there.

It was doubleplusgood. Not only did I get to answer some people's questions who hadn't got answers yet, but I also got my green belt out of it!

I went to check that out and I found a horrible, horrible answer about genetics, no wonder it was undecided. How are you monitoring science related questions? Shouldn't they show the same advice as health related questions?
I know nobody is going to die of a wrong science answer but this site shouldn't be spreading missinformation (I don't want to say ignorance).
And that was my rant du jour.

The vote is really last chance moderatation, If something gets overlooked during it's 72hrs on the site it will get caught in the voting process, in this case, from what I see 100% of Mahaloians voted "no best answer" for that particular question, meaning the question will be left unanswered and not points or money will be handed out. The most unfortunate thing is the users experience who didn't get their question answered. We hope the higher the population gets around here, the more likely users will get the answers they are looking for.

I just joined last week so I am still learning. Someone posted a question about voting on the undecided a few days ago, so I have been trying to check those out and vote during the last fews. I am glad for this question, because now I know I am doing it right! I just try to figure out the questions I think I can give a fair vote on. How long do they stay in undecided before the voting closes?

I am newbee here. Had no idea of this one. And, Just started looking there. I havn't seen any advantage in any terms on the "Points" page for oting undecided questions. Mahalo should update its Points Page for that.
And, thanks Jeffohoard for tellin about this one, Have a Life's HUG for that.
..
Thinking how to take a Life's HUG?
Well, Just visit my profile to know of that and tell me how was taking very first Life's HUG!
