Would you pay to have a giant Jason Calacanis statue built?
If the proceeds went to charity, how much would you donate toward the creation of a giant Jason Calacanis statue? Let's say it cost $20,000 to create a 13 x 8 statue (including the plot of land). What if a goal was set to have it constructed if $50,000 was raised? $30,000 would go to charity, but the statue would continue to raise money for charity. There would be a drop box in the giant sleeve of Calacanis that people could drop coins and dollars in. How much would you donate toward this?

I love charity. I don't want to see a giant Jason statue though. But if YOU think this is a good idea, then stick to your guns. I'm sticking to the googly-eyed crazy face in my post.

Well, then it can be made of raw materials. Consider the potential. It's not a waste because you're building a structure that will help charities long after it's built. The uniqueness of it will draw large crowds/attention.

Its not just in his honor. It's for charity. People will visit it for years and put money in it. At the end of the day, someone will come and collect its deposits. What do you have against this?

Xds, there are key differences. For one thing, the statue would be a unique attraction that many people will talk/write about, and it would draw crowds. Also, the statue is for charity. Money given to this site doesn't go to charity to the best of my knowledge.
We would have to determine what charity the statue donations would go to.

Xds, when you look at other statues, they're pretty much just there. If you have to pay to visit them, you give money to the state. This statue would benefit charities. And if this project was formally announced, the buzz surrounding it would be tremendous.
It would be one of the most talked about tech stories of the year--guaranteed.

Do you have any sources to backup your claim with regards to the moneys being funneled threw the state to the charity of choosing?
EDIT:
Also _where_ do you propose this statue be built ?

What claim? I wasn't saying the money would be funneled through the state. I was saying that when you look at other statues, they are just there, not collecting money for charities. Or if they are at a memorial or a historical landmark that you must pay to visit, then you give money to the state. This statue would be privately owned and money given to it would go directly to a charity.

In terms of where it would be built, I hadn't thought about it, but I imagine it could be built on a plot of land somewhere in southern California or whatever location is cheapish/best.

The statue would be equipped with sleeves that act as drop boxes for loose change and dollars. So, after the statue is built, it would continue to serve as a vehicle to raise money for charities for generations and generations.

Not sure why that would play into your decision, but here's one:

Consider the possibilities. If this project was announced, every tech blogger and their mother would blog about it. Because the statue would serve as a depository for loose change and dollars going to a charity of some sort, it's safe to say that it would be very unique. And money could be donated for generations and generations.
A statue with giant sleeves and big pockets for money to be shoved in? Crazy, but not so crazy that it's physically impossible to build. If you announce this project, you'll create one of the most talked about tech stories of the year. I think that's given.
If you want $3, explain why building it is a good idea.
