Will Mahalo succeed as a social network because it provides faster opportunity for quality answers?
I like Mahalo because I think it has met my need for getting high quality answers to tough questions.

I'm assuming you did mean to associate 'quality answers' with 'social networking' as in it's the members here who provide the content, not just a web search, and that as members we have a strong community spirit that will make Mahalo successful.
In those terms I whole-heartily agree! The standard of answers is high because Mahalo requires sources, and that means flippant and disrespectful members don't get very far and leave...leaving those who do enjoy the 'hunt' of researching to continue.
To me that's what happens here, only those with a strong community spirit enjoy the site anyway. Otherwise they find it too much work and spend time on normal social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace.
I do agree with comments here about having more features for members BUT is that going to make it harder to stop Q/A niches, gamers and flippant answers? I think adding features like that will take away some of the anonymity and that might not be a good thing overall. We don't need those features if we concentrate on being a 'community' rather than individuals working together - a subtle but important distinction I think.
Dave - you do indeed require good answers and your questions make for interesting research ( even though I have yet to complete one without stumbling into a pit of internet darkness!!!! )
I actually like Mahalo because it can be challenging and I do try my best to keep a high standard. And I know I'm just one of many.

I'm suggesting that the opportunity to correct an answer, challenge the content, or get further clarification on an answer in a rapid fashion make Mahalo the choice for getting quality answers.

Yes, that makes sense. There is a lot of input I must say, it does make for quality answers usually - not all the time but certainly better than average.

I think so. :)
Compared to Yahoo answers who just give points to answerer, here, money is given instead of points which will really make anyone try harder to give a correct answer. Plus, you also get to meet nice people here especially if you're always online. So aside from earning something, you're also socializing. Facebook, MySpace and any other social networking sites can't give you that.
I've been here for just a few months and I could say that this site has a potential. I believe in it. ^^ I know someday Mahalo's gonna be big! It doesn't just earn for itself, Mahalo shares on it's users and members too! ^^

The answer really depends on what features Mahalo adds to the site. As things stand, there is no way to "subscribe", "friend", "block", "IM", other members. To the best of my knowledge we can only send private questions, and even that is limited to one per day for any given one member sending to one particular other member. Lacking those features, the site is not designed in a proper way to be a social networking site.

I have been a member of other sites that offers the same service as Mahalo and I have to admit I like this one better. And I can say Mahalo has a potential to be a great site because the Mahalo team and other members watch each others back. I constantly receive feedbacks, criticisms, corrections on my answers so I learned a lot especially when it comes to copy/pasting.
I think feedback or comments are very important to help the members continue to improve and give quality answers. It contains lots of nice features too like the photo, video, audio plus we are given chance to edit our answers. I think this is really cool.
And aside from questions and answers there are also cool tasks that we can do to make this site more exciting. It feed the hunger of those who are in to managing pages and the "How To" team.
I think nobody can beat that so far.vKudos to the Mahalo Team for their support and good job.
