Why would anyone ask a question, then not take the time to select best or no best answer?

I know sometimes it is a twitter question where the asker is not even aware that the question was asked here on Mahalo. However, I often see active members ask questions and they don't take the time to select a best or no best answer.

This makes me feel like I'm just wasting my time. Am I missing something? Is there a point to asking questions that one is not concerned enough with the answer to at least read and rate them?

I can see if the answers are close and they want help deciding. When voting though this is seldom the case. The best answer is obvious. What gives? What am I missing?

There are some valid reasons for some askers who didn't get a chance to pick one as a best answer. I'll try to mention a few.

1. They didn't go online because of some matters.
- This could happen especially if the person doesn't have everyday internet access.
2. Maybe they got busy on some of their work or maybe family matters.
3. They forgot to check back the answers.
- This could happen too especially if the asker just asked random questions which doesn't need daily or hourly follow-up.
4. Maybe they find it hard to find the best among the answers... so they just let it go to the voting stage where others could help him/her pick out the best from all the answers.

I think this four factors happens. Don't be annoyed though. If your answer is pretty great, I'm sure the voters would see it and will vote for you. ^^

I always end up voting on answer's other than my own to see if anyone is voting for me. XD Granted I also pick the best answer outside of my own if I feel mine is best, but it's a bad habit. Today I lost best answer by one vote, and it was mine.

Aww... if you think the other person really deserve your vote, then I guess it's okay. :) You could always try your best on other questions out there. ^^

Well for me if the question I ask doesn't have enough answer to compare to each other. Then I leave it so it can get a few more answers and if it doesn't then I choose.

I only select a best answer if its something i needed an answer too, or if I find something really fascinating enough that it follows M's guidelines and deserves it.

If it, to voting it goes if it's a random question, thoughts on something in life, etc.

Or if i get crap answers that are copy-and-pasted with no citations or if the answers givin aren't even up to yahoo answers standards, then I junk it.

Sometimes I can not decide who has the best answer and I choose to let others decide. I never want to give a best answer to someone just because they agree with me. Sometimes there are so many good answers I need some help in deciding. It should not feel like it isn't important. Most all answers on here are subjective and I want them to be considered on their own merit not just because I agree with the answer. Most questions I ask I decide, but sometimes there is just too many choices for me.
