Why do my points earned in a day jump around after the fact?

A couple of days ago I had some extra time and earned something like 168 points. But when I looked today, it shows that I earned around 100 less than that. A day or two prior to that I'd earned about the same amount, and when I checked yesterday it showed that I'd earned about 50 some points!

I'm guessing the system is only totaling the points on the page I'm looking at in my profile. Is that right? I'd really love it if there were a simplified page that just showed points per day without all with questions were asked, answered, voted on, commented on, etc.
