Understanding, is the goal of an asker of a question. Many of the answers to questions can be easily googled, but when I ask questions I hope to see people incorporate their own knowledge and understanding in an effort to share their knowledge with me. Summarizing and more importantly rephrasing information they find online is what provides the asker with additional understanding of a subject. This is because most sites are either too simple or too advanced to be helpful to an asker and so answerers here have the chance to rewrite an answer that is directly targeted at the level of the asker.

However, in practice most of the questions are inane and most of the answers to sensible questions lack understanding. Oh well. It's still fun, mostly.

In theory, that's what a human powered answer system is about. If you just need an answer, google it. But if you don't understand what you see, or have trouble interpreting things, then ask a person. However, in practice most of the questions are inane and most of the answers to sensible questions lack understanding. Oh well. It's still fun, mostly.
