What is the best way to pick a best answer?

Should a questioner base it on the amount of votes an answer receive or should it be considered solely on the questioner's personal opinion and ignore the votes.

I ignore the votes. It's not a popularity contest. You can't really see ahead of time how many people have voted for it, although you can see how many people have said it's a helpful answer. It's rare that a winning answer gets as many votes as it does helpful ratings.

When I vote, I read the answer and, when in doubt, check the links to make sure they are quality links that somehow support the answer. So far most of them have been.

I imagine anyone trying to throw up links that are junk links would get caught pretty quickly, in case anyone reading this is thinking of gaming the system that way. Mahalo Answers answers rate high in search engines, so bad answers will live on in perpetuity. The "Sheriff's Department" here is usually pretty good about throwing those answers out.

The best way to pick an answer is the same way they use here on Mahalo, by letting the one who asked the question decide which answer is the best for him/her !

The best answer is the answer which needed from the questioner side!
