What happens to answered questions that are forgotten about?
For instance, I answered this question a few days ago. What happens if the user who asked the question never returns to the site or simply ignores the question? I'm not trying to jump the gun and say I had the best answer, I'm merely curious how the system works.
I'm actually more curious when it comes to the Twitter questions, as I imagine that many of the questions that are asked via Twitter will rarely get best answers chosen by the asker.
Thanks ahead of time for the info.

As I understand it, if the best question is not selected by the original poster, then it goes to a community vote. See the UNDECIDED tab for questions that you can vote on to help determine the best answer. After a few days of community voting the best answer is determined and you'll get the award if you are the best one. Just be patient.
On the referenced page, look under UNDECIDED VOTES.

@krowland is correct, if the asker fails to select a best answer with 3 days the question enters our Undecided tab from there community members can help clean out older questions by voting on for the answer they believe deserves the tip. The question will be voted on for 3 days or more (if there needs to be a tie broken) most votes wins. If no votes are generated in three days the system simply chooses no best answer. That's why is is very important users spend a few moments each day and provide a few votes for their fellow Mahaloians :D
