What equipment does the Mahalo studio use?

This afternoon, I heard Tyler Crowley talk about the basics of video creation made with the purpose of monetizing it online. He's the guy behind the video at Mahalo Daily, etc.

In short his message was that it is very important to keep production, equipment and labor costs low so that it is possible to make money.

I realize that much of the cost of the equipment that Mahalo uses to produce it's online shows is spread over a number of projects... however, I'm interested in what gear the studio has.

What equipment does Mahalo use for video production?

1. We have a nice light package ($5k that CauseCast.org bought).
2. We have a Tricaster (from our sponsor! normally like 3-12k)
3. We have three basic Sony HD cameras that cost like $1,000
4. We have basic sennheiser lavalier microphones (like $300-400 each).
5. We have a $300 old wodden table.

That's it!

Thanks, Jason!

I appreciate the run down. It helps me out.

I was talking 1:1 with Tyler today and had a really great discussion on my exact requirements of video. He didn't mention exactly what you guys had in studio (it didn't come up), but between his help at his seminar on Tuesday, his help today and yours now, I sure appreciate it!!!

Thank-you again. You were missed at the conference.

Not planning a looting and want a shopping list now, are we? :)

Actually, Jason may have already dropped a bit of a hint. See: http://www.mahalo.com/answers/from-twitter/what-is-the-best-way-to-live-editline-cut-a-three-camera-shoot-for-the-cheapest-price-using-1k-sony-hd-cameras

So, I'm venturing to say that they most likely have a bit of Sony video available. Beyond that, maybe you can ask for pictures of the studio. :)

I may have mis-understood, but I think Tyler mentioned they were using $300 cameras.

No looting plans here. Mahalo produces some high quality content and Tyler said it could all be done pretty cheap. It was inspiring.

Ahh yes, the world of video, where anyone with a laptop and built in camera can get on YouTube. :)

It's funny too how I see it all - from the crappy webcam stuff to broadcast HD.

I just think it's amazing that yes, you can get video from a $30 clip on webcam http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/webcams/devices/4266&cl=us,en

and you can get HD video from a $100,000 Sony broadcast camera http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-broadcastcameras/cat-studio/product-HDC1000LB/ and there's still things in between for every budget. :)
