I have periods when I'm more enthused, and periods when I'm less enthused.
What gets me less enthused is if things don't live up to my expectations, for example we don't get many interesting questions, I encounter a lot of bugs, or someone doesn't pay up a tip that I felt was deserved.
But then that gets counter-balanced because good questions come along, I get some nice tips, people post things that make me laugh etc.
So, no I don't really have to actively do things to motivate myself, more just hang in and check in often enough that I see the good things that happen here as well as the frustrating ones.

As far as Paypal payouts go, I haven't accumulated enough tips for what I want to make it worth doing so yet.
My motivation is simple: If I find the question interesting to me, and if I can answer it, and there's not already 10+ other answers, I'll answer it. Direct questions sent to me usually get answered within 8 hours, depending on when I can access my email during the day.

PS: The internet connections over seas are horrible. And the wireless connections are even more flaky.

Slow times at Mahalo....
I kind of slowed down a while back for a couple of reasons.
I got caught the web of a bunch of tip-free questions by mistake, as I did not know there was such a thing as a question without even the 25 cent tip. I was generously tipped for the work I did anyway, so that's good, but I still have 100 answers out there somewhere waiting weeks to be voted upon (that was the second motivation for my slow-down). The third thing was waiting to see if M$ which I requested would really show up yesterday in my Paypal account.. it didn't.
MY QUESTIONs: Has anyone else out there slowed down? and what is your reason? Has anyone had to get themselves motivated here? how did you do it?

I haven't slowed down, but I need to make it a point to check MA daily. Sometimes that doesn't happen until lunch because of my schedule and workload at work. Sometimes it make take 2-3 days if I'm shooting something on location with little to no access to the internet. As far as Paypal payouts go, I haven't accumulated enough tips for what I want to make it worth doing so yet.

Sorry to hear your Paypal payment didn't come into your account yesterday, What day did you make the request? Was it before July 31st? If it was made after July 31st you won't receive it until September 15th. Otherwise, this month August 15th landed on a Saturday so most banks are not processing transactions, we appreciate any patience you have for the beginning of next week. good points jeffhoard and thank you from all of us who read this. I'm hoping my first payment will process about 8/15+ (then another one will process 9/15)

I haven't slowed down, but I was away on urgent business for a few weeks, and just got back about 3 weeks ago, I'll probably be called again this holiday season but we will see. PS: The internet connections over seas are horrible. And the wireless connections are even more flaky.
