I think that would be a great idea. Because, sometimes there are two really great answers that, if they were put together would make the Best Answer. Usually a huge conundrum for me. I see something I like in one answer but I also like another response.
I think it would also lessen the complications that come from choosing best answer. By choosing two answers there is more chances of more members getting best answers.
I would say the Second Best answer should receive the same points the best answer got, but not the money. The ribbon should be blue, it follows the Mahalo theme, but I would prefer red.
Tipping doesn't seem very effective because the members usually don't know why they have been tipped.

Should Mahalo give the option of also choosing a Second Best Answer? If so, should that award come with some extra points, a tip, or both?
Also, what color would you want the ribbon to be?

Would you be absolutely against this if it were a completely optional feature for askers, who could perhaps click a specific button to award a ribbon and a couple of extra points if they really wanted to? That way, you could simply ignore it if you didn't want to do it.

I think best answer is sufficient, If you want to add an additional tip to additional great answers, each answer has a "tip" option, so you can click that button and spread some wealth - no points for them though, but you get points when you do that :)

You are among those who give quite generously when it comes to your time and when it comes to giving extra tips to spread the wealth. I wish everyone were as willing to recognize the efforts of answerers. :)

No, I think the 1 best answer system is the best. No reason to make things more complicated. What if there is only 1 answer? Who would get the 2nd best answer tip? I think if there is a 2nd best answer you would like to reward, you can do so with a separate tip for their answer.

It's possible that it would add nothing to the community; then again, it is also possible that it would actually add 1) increased interest in answering questions and in keeping people involved as long-term Mahalo participants, 2) motivation to give higher quality answers, 3) more choices to askers who like to reward answerers, 4) more public display of recognition to answerers for their work, and 5) a fun option which can be used by those who want it and ignored by those who do not wish to use it at all.

Perhaps this would even be a feature that would encourage askers to spend more time reading the answers they get and considering the amount of work put into them.
