Hi @romeo0830,

My advice parallels some of what has already been said, and I have a few things to add.

1. You need to add categories. That alone could move you up a little bit. Put the page in every category that is relevant, but not any that don't apply.

2. I'd change the guide note to be more general about when the movie was released and who starred in it, then add a separate section for a synopsis of the plot. The only actor you currently mention is Robin Williams.

3. More inlinking will help. Add them in the Fast Facts and the Reviews section... and any new sections you add.

4. More original content. Adding that synopsis will help, and for the reviews, if you found some authoritative reviews from online sources and listed them it would help.

5. Videos add google juice not through the video itself, per se, but through the title, description and comments you make concerning it. Make sure you add all of those when you add a video.

6. The grammar does come into play... but indirectly. It makes your page just that much better and a higher quality page is more likely to get spontaneous links from outside.

7. Put in a text box Related Mahalo Pages section instead of what you have, link to the main actors' names, the director, the production company, etc.

Keep adding content on a regular basis, tweaking the page... and Google will like that too.

And you might not realize it, but SEO comes into play here in a lot more ways than the keyword meta. For instance, for other meta tags... the Guide Note is used as the meta description, and the Title of the page is the meta title. So you do control those.

More SEO: Since you are trying to rank for the keyword phrase "Mrs Doubtfire", you need related keywords.. in this case, I think the main actors' names will all help.

Why I'm saying some of these things...

The links you have going out to other pages and other sites matter. It shows Google and the other SE's that you are an authority and want to give the visitor the best information, even if it takes them away from your page.

Videos give your page an opportunity to give an outgoing link, have more related content, add original content in the text you add, and can work to keep your visitors on your page longer.

In addition to all of that... incoming links will be key. Get as many quality incoming links as you can... with the best anchor text you can. (more SEO)

All in all...

Your page should be the absolute best authority page on Mrs Doubtfire that anyone can find. That will get people linking to you, and the things that you do to make it that great should move you up in the rankings.

Hope all of that was at least a little helpful.

PS...interestingly enough, it seems that a site on the front page of the google results is doing something that youtube used to do... giving a link to the top 5 sites linking to them.

I'd add a link to the break.com video somewhere on your page... maybe add a text box and put a paragraph in talking about the fact that a recut trailer was made by someone to try to make Mrs Doubtfire look like a horror film... then use the link to the video page as a reference.

Once a couple of people click that link, you will have an incoming link to your page from break.com since the top five right now all have 1 click. That link should give you a little boost, too.

I used to use this trick to get incoming links to my sites from youtube, but I haven't been able to see this feature lately on youtube.. so I'm thinking they changed it.

no problem, Mike.

Remember to make changes over time. Don't do it all at once. Google likes to see consistent changes.

i actually think this is a helpful answer.

"do follow" links = links from a blog or other website that the search engines will be able to "follow" to your page. many sites have this turned off.
"anchor text backlink" = links coming back to your page with keywords in the link text called "anchor text"

i think those that voted unhelpful may not have understood what @niche was trying to say.

Do follow links with great anchor text can rocket you to the front page of Google if you have enough of them, so this answer hits the nail right on the head. You could probably not get enough to make it to the first page of SERP's for this page, but every quality incoming link is a little more google juice.

nice job, @niche!

Promotion, promotion, promotion! I'd also clean up the right side of the page some: move the Top 7 to the top, switch the places of the videos and images also. maybe add a featured video or 2. That and try to give it more "Google Juice".

People enjoy videos!

Right now your page does not have a lot of original content on it, so I'm doubtful (no pun intended!) you're going to get much higher than page 10 or so.

In order to rank higher you need to have ~400-800 words in that Guide Note, as well as having a number of links from other high-quality sites.

If you look at the top ten sites you can see they are very high quality and have been around for a long time. Sites like imdb.com, wikipedia, rottentomatoes, and Amazon.com are going to be impossible to beat.

However, you have a chance to rank as high at page two if you get a couple of links and do more content--and wait! it can take months.

Hi there! I noticed that you had several spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. I also noticed that you spoke of the movie as though it is currently playing in theaters, when it was made in 1993.

To get better traffic, you could consider trying some SEO (search engine optimization) techniques.

SEO is defined by Wikipedia as "a form of Internet marketing that seeks to promote websites by increasing their visibility in search engine result pages (SERPs) through the use of paid placement, contextual advertising, and paid inclusion."

Try a keyword tool to help make your pages more search engine friendly. I like the Wordtracker (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/). It's free and easy to use.

i have actually been doing SEO for 7 years now... =) - the things you have mentioned will not exactly help me in this matter as you cannot change meta tags here. but thank you anyway.. Im actually looking more for ranking in the search engines for this page... You also stated about grammar errors.. I am using windows so each word is automatically underlined if there is a error.. Where is there several errors?

I don't think Angela is talking about meta tags. From a blog post by Matt Cutts:

Q: Does Google ever use the "keywords" meta tag in its web search ranking?
A: In a word, no.

Sorry for the delay in my answer! Evenings are busy around my house LOL! Anyway, I wanted to explain the errors I noticed. As an editor, I tend to be very anal about writing, so I notice things others may not. Here are just a few that I found in the first two paragraphs, just to illustrate my point. Hope this helps!

This paragraph:

From the director Chris Columbus comes a fantastic comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. After a bitter divorce a man (Actor) Robin Williams goes above and beyond to see his kids again after the courts ruled him unfit to take care of them. Find out what happens as this man dresses up like a old women just to see his kids as they think Mrs. Doubtfire is there new nanny.

1. The first sentence is basically grammatically correct, but implies that the movie is a recent release. There is a comma missing after the word "comedy" and you probably should omit second word (the).

2. The second sentence is missing a comma after the word “divorce.” Also, I would omit the word actor. If you wanted to leave it in, you would have to use a lower case a on the word "actor" and omit the parentheses. Better yet, say something like "Actor Robin Williams portrays a man who is ruled an unfit parent in a bitter divorce..."

3. In the third sentence, you say “a old womEn” instead of “an old woman.” Also, you use the word “there” instead of the word “their.”

This paragraph:

My Personal Review: This movies was A++ it was full comedic energy from Robin Williams and to see a old women playing soccer, dancing on chairs playing a fake guitar was riot... I highly recommend you go see this movie you will not be disappointed.

1. First sentence: First, it’s a run-on sentence. You say “this movies was A++” which is just off. I think you meant to say that the movie deserved an A++ rating.

2. Then, “It was full comedic energy from Robin Williams” could be a standalone sentence. Then, there was an instance of “a old women” instead of “an old woman.” Then, you missed a comma (or period?) after “dancing on chairs.”

3. You said “playing a fake guitar was riot,” where you missed “a” before guitar. The last part after the ellipsis is really two more sentences in the form of an extended run-on. I think the entire paragraph needs to be reworked.

I can go on if you’d like, but this gives you an idea of the types of mistakes I noticed. Unfortunately, few editing programs are completely foolproof. They cannot detect a lot of the errors I found, but I would expect a program like Microsoft Word to detect at least some of them. Hope this helps to explain what I meant by spelling, punctuation and grammar errors.

Romeo--is English your first language? Where did you go to school?
romeo0830
romeo0830  |  November 04, 2009 05:54 AM
yes my English is perfectly fine... like i stated u are anal.. not necesary to go there.. i was simply telling you that your opinion is not helpful here as it does not boost ranking to have a perfect sentance or () removed etc.. I think however you got off subject.. just looking for the goal here and that is the answer to my question.

Thanks, Mike !

You specifically asked me to tell you what I meant when I suggested that you had spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. I’m sorry that you were offended by my answer, but I wasn’t making any of it up. Any editor would tell you the same thing—and I was being gentle. If you didn’t want to know, you shouldn’t have asked. None of the edits I offered were my opinion. Anyone with a basic understanding of the language would say the same thing. Look it up. I didn’t tell you anything I wouldn’t tell any other random person asking for my opinion on his or her work. I don’t know if you consider yourself a writer, but if you do, you should realize that most editors don’t sugar coat things. Your writing would not meet the standards for any professional publication. In fact, it wouldn’t meet the standards for most middle school teachers.

I wasn’t trying to upset you. I thought you wanted honest opinions. I know now that you were just looking for people to tell you there was nothing wrong with your page, and that you were probably just trying to get free page views. I’m sorry I wasted my time.

Hi there Romeo,

It looks like you're a bit sensitive to up front straightforward comments about what is wrong with your page. But to be honest, you have to have a pretty darn kickass page to make it on the front page of a Google search. Yours is pretty ordinary, like others have said. You have to put a lot more work on it if you expect it to perform well.

Also, you haven't set a category for your page yet.
