Mahalo: You may wish to base your "views" counts on unique users, rather than on the number of times a page is opened.

When I'm editing an answer during that initial hour, I may open a page multiple times in the process. It seems to be counting each time I open the page.

Interesting, the stats (on Topic Pages) only update about once a week based on our Google analytic stats. So I am unsure how your view counter is going up each time you visit the page.

As far as I know the views are based on unique views, I will double check with the devs and if it's not unique I'll respond to this answer with that information.

The views on Answers threads might not be Unique Views, but that counter is not critically important.

I think the counter has a lot to do with traffic, due to perceived interest. When a question appears to be "hot", more people want to visit the page and put their two cents in. As a user, I do pay attention to the count when deciding whether or not to answer a question.
