Is it possible to message me somehow whenever anyone asks questions I have knowledge in?

What I'm trying to find out is if there's a way that I can be contacted whenever someone asks a question within the categories I am best suitable to answer in?

You click on the category where you are expert in. In the address bar there will be an orange icon for the rss feed of that category. From here, you have 2 choices:

1. either you insert that rss feed's address into a feed reader like google reader
https://www.google.com/reader/view/

2. either you use a service that sends you emails of that feed, like feedmailer
http://www.feedmailer.net/

RSS via email
Feed Mailer takes RSS one step further! It e-mails you the updates! We take the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by e-mailing you the very latest information that you are interested in.

Bugsy.

What is the "pull" cycle on feedmailer ?
For instance , does it check feeds every 1hour 2 hours ? every minute ?

Please give me a rough idea.

I guess the best thing that you can do is subscribing to multiple services and see what mail you get first.

http://www.rssfwd.com/
http://www.feedmyinbox.com/

I have found another cool tool.

http://rss2email.infogami.com/

rss2email is a free tool for delivering news from RSS feeds to your email program that works under Windows and UNIX.

that sounds easy enough, but I guess I have to sign up to feedmailer. Small price to pay to simplify my life. I'll check it out, thanks a lot for your help.

The RSS feed isn't readily visible in the categories, but can be accessed by the orange icon in the address bar of Firefox. Alternately you can insert the URL for that category into a RSS reader like Bloglines or Google Reader.

That being said, two RSS feeds will show up. One says 'Mahalo Answers: Latest Questions'; the other is 'Mahalo Answers Category Feed'. Be sure to select the category feed if that is what you want to follow.

Also, rather than subscribing to the top level category feed (unless you really want to), I would recommend drilling down to the specific sub-category in which you want to use your expertise.

Yahoo Pipes combined with the feed might do this for you.

It is certainly possible, but I'm not sure it can be done without writing a script or program. If you use "Spy" which appears on the upper right of the Mahalo answers screen, you can see all the questions on Mahalo. It would be fairly simple to write a program that scanned the page(s) for your categories. Perhaps such a program already exists.

You could also scan an RSS feed from Mahalo. I can't find such a feed. There is an RSS feed, but I can't find one for questions.

Personal experience. I've written programs that almost do what you want.

We will have an alert system and RSS feeds for search in the new year. When that happens you'll be able to set a search for any questions about "Boston" or "iPhone."

we're also going to create Twitter accounts for each top level category.
