I have been looking around the site for the last day and I am still unsure of how to make money/how everything works. Can someone explain?

You can make money 3 ways.
a) by answering questions. this works by receiving tips from the person who asked the question.
b) you can manage a SERP ( Search Engine Result Page ) you receive 50% of the ad money the page brings in.

The easiest way for beginners on this site to start making money is by answering questions. When you answer a question, you don't automatically get the tip. You only get the tip if your answer is voted as the best answer. Either the person who asked the question will choose the best answer, or the community will vote on it. This usually takes several days.
Questions with high tips often get a lot of responses, so it is more difficult to be chosen as the best answer. Start out by answering .25 cent questions that are unanswered. If they are good answers, you will probably get the tip for that question.
Stick with it. You will probably have to be active for about a week before you start seeing the money come in.
