You should report the person to the MAPD (mahalo answers police department). We don't like people being hostile like this in system.

I just sent Bobbyedwards this note:

@Bobbyedwards: It's not a good idea to race around and vote down another users answers because you feel slighted. @Albanian should be able to vote your question uninteresting without fear that you'll try to ruin his voting record.

The point of the "helpful answer" feature is to help the person asking the question know which answers are actually helpful. If folks race around voting down people they don't like--or feel slighted by--then you've ruined the experience of the folks who need our help.

Does that make sense?

------

Also, please send @mike a note and see if he can reverse these unhelpful votes. I'm certain he can.

Personally I would not take any action directly against that user. That will cause more problems. Bringing it up with Mahalo would be a good option- but if it gets that user in trouble, they may be more inclined to find different ways to lower your ratings (Maybe instead of voting you down, they'll vote everyone up.)

Anyway that's just my thought on it. Ignore it and move on. If that doesn't seem like the right thing to do, brink it up with Mahalo.

I am trying to bring it up to Mahalo with this question, as they monitor questions. There is nothing I can do to him as he only has a handful of questions and answers while I have hundreds. But if Mahalo doesn't act I'll be out of here.

Nah... doubtful that will happen. That's the beauty of Mahalo. It's powered by real people and augmented by automation (or is that the other way around).

This is an interesting problem. My guess is that this user will get bored of you and move on. However, maybe there should be some bad Karma for marking the same user as un-helpful.

However, having an answer that isn't related to the question being asked, isn't helpful. Or did you mean your answers to questions unrelated to his question.

Mahalo will need to deal with this, or acknowledge it as a problem somehow. A Karma system might help, but the devil is in the details.

I meant all my recent answers, which were to a variety of questions from various people on other subjects over the last few days none of which had anything to do with his question.

IMHO a these things could help:

  • Mahalo rookies get a limited number of questions they can mark as unhelpful per day.
  • a 3 strike and you're banned. I don't know if it's against Mahalo's TOS to mark all answers as unhelpfull. But it think it's unfair.
  • And maybe a monitoring system that warns Mahalo if a user marks an unusual amount of answers as unhelpful.

@albanian I want to publicly apologize to you. You had left what I felt was a rude answer. I shouldn't have responded in the manner in which I did. I did not however mark ALL your answers unhelpful. I did mark several unhelpful and regardless of how many I did even if it was one it was wrong. You caught me at a moment when I was in a foul mood and I responded inappropriately. If you or someone else will show me how to delete my account I will self ban myself. There is one question that I plan on answering later (you can mark it unhelpful if it makes you feel better) then given the instructions on how to delete my account I will. Also I awarded you the best answer on your comment and I hope that helps a little.
