for some reason my upload speed is higher than my download speed don't know why. perhaps because of all the " torrenting " going on at this hour.
This is peak time right now in my area.
ps: i did another test earlier this past year directly (without using my wireless connection)
heres the result

They advertise 4Mbps so it's good I guess. But so slow compared to the rest of you and to living on campus! Downside of living on an island I guess.

Microwave based backup in case of major failure of Comcast at the Studio
I'd test it at home, but the Death Star (AT&T) has sync issues any time the ground gets wet. I'm 1 block from the DSLAM and 1 mile from the CO, so it's usually the same as the microwave backup at the studio.

I'm on a Centurytel DSL connection. These speeds are interesting because I'm only paying for a 256K connection, but I'm getting about 512K. There was one day when my download speeds did magically double.
I wish I had some of the downloads listed by others. Downloads in excess of 20 Mbps. Hot Damn!

As you can see it isn't the fastest speed around, but we get exactly the speed we pay for and it has never gone down. The reliability is worth the drop in speed if you ask me. The one thing I do miss is the 10mbit connection I had in college that allowed 10mbit up as well as down. That meant I could stream TV shows to my laptop before class on host my own web server.

My ISP provides up to 7mb service, but they say that my phone line is of marginal quality for even a voice signal. Qwest owns the lines and refuses to upgrade because the voice signal comes through, so I'm stuck with this crappy slow stuff.
When I first upgraded to this from dialup it was amazing. Now I find myself bitter that it's not faster.

I don't know about that, I think 60$Canadian is too much for internet :( Maybe its because I only have a part time job.

$60 Canadian! crap. I'm throwing out $50 each month to get a fifth your speed. Alas, my only other real choice in my area for internet is Rogers and its not bloody likely I'll ever make that switch.

If your transferring other files in the background you won't get accurate results. Also, if you are using a torrent client or a proxy, you also might not get accurate results.

The UK cable giant Sky. If you could maintain a consistent connection it would be alright, however everyday without fail at 5:p.m. to about 9 p.m. it comes to a crawl and sometimes fails completely. To many people sharing the pipe. Good thing it is cheap though, an 8mb connection for 5 pounds a month. That is about 8 Canadian dollars. http://www.flickr.com/photos/rosshann/3413371651/sizes/o/
